Chapter 10 Chapter Ten
- Cynthia sat at her pretty table in her new bedroom, thinking about everything that happened in the last day. The meeting had been tense and serious, filled with quiet dangers. She knew Ken would help her in front of the others, but the way he did it made her feel strange; he didn’t act like a caring husband. She felt it when his voice got sharp and how he stopped the investor from asking more questions like it was a rule. It felt more like control than concern, like a move in a game, not real feelings, and now she was in the middle of this mess.
- She wasn’t silly; she knew she was stepping into a battle with big stakes. Ken thought he could use her for his plans, but she would show him she wasn’t just a piece in the game because she had her own dreams and reasons to stay. A knock on the door pulled her from her thoughts, and she turned, saying, "Come in."
- Ken rolled in with his wheelchair, looking serious as always, and he quickly looked her over. "Tomorrow, we start," he said. Cynthia put down her hairbrush and asked, "Start what?"
