• Hanna jerked violently in Jean's arms at the sound of the familiar booming voice, her body going rigid with terror.
• If Jean hadn't been holding her so tightly, she would've crumpled bonelessly to the floor. As it was, he collapsed back with her dead weight still clutched firmly against his shoulder, struggling to keep them both upright.
• "No, no, no, don't let him take me," Hanna rasped out desperately, her voice little more than a ragged whisper of panic.
