• Michael came to visit the river again that night, gazing at it lost in thought. He snapped out of his reverie when the faint rumble of an approaching car reached his ears.
• He turned to see Lincoln's beat-up sedan pulling up, the driver's side door creaked open to reveal his disheveled brother-in-law. Poor guy looked like he'd been through the wringer.
• Lincoln shuffled over, eyes downcast and shoulders slumped with the weight of his grief.
