• Scarlett’s return to the hospital was anything but voluntary. The resident doctor had called to utter a stern ultimatum: attend immediately or face disciplinary action akin to that of a novice trainee.
• With a heavy heart, she pecked Lincoln goodbye and hastened to the institution that demanded her presence.
