Chapter 14 Escape from the Den

  • Standing behind the heavy metal door, a thick wooden candlestick was held in quivering hands high above Selena's head as she attempted to quiet her deep shuddering breaths. There was only one thing she could do: get away from him. She, therefore waited anxiously behind the door while the sky grew darker. He hadn't come to her all day. Nancy had informed her that Natasha and Cayden would be attending a meeting in the city. Nancy's plan was for them to meet in the woods and run off together because Selena couldn't turn with her collar and it was too risky for them to leave the mansion together.

  • She had to leave right away! She raced as stealthily as she could toward the direction of the balcony windows, forgetting her shoes. She swallowed as she turned to face the manor house, which had three stories overall—four if you count this particular room. But before she hurried back and descended the ledge through the window, she didn't have time to stop and consider her options.
