• Cayden positioned himself at the natural chokepoint of the hill so that he could shield the more vulnerable members of the Pack who were behind him from the oncoming army. Because the rock formations were in the shape of an upside-down "V," the entrance was only ten yards wide at its narrowest point. Even though they could avoid him through strategic manoeuvring, it appeared the rebel army was intent on pushing forwards and striking at the heart of their territory before any suitable defence could be mounted.
• Cayden yelled to Max, instructing him to stay by his side and stand by him. Max struggled to catch his breath as he raced up the hill. Michael, the adversary Alpha, had the backing of his subordinate betas and his own supporters. He recognised Michael as one of Hawk’s Minion.
