Chapter 9 The Affair From That Night

  • "I won't be seeing him." Henry pushed the door to his office open and instructed, "Make a cup of coffee for me."
  • Saying that, he walked toward his desk.
  • "Mr. Green said that he won't leave until you meet him."
  • Henry turned around and glanced at his secretary, who immediately lowered his head.
  • "Bring him in." He sat down and began unbuttoning his suit.
  • Soon, his secretary led Chester in, along with a cup of coffee.
  • With an annoyed expression, Chester immediately questioned, "Where did you find that woman?"
  • Henry picked up his coffee and sent his secretary out before he raised his head to look at Chester.
  • "Look at the injury she gave me." Chester pointed at his neck, where there was an apparent wound, and his wrist was wrapped in gauze. "She almost cut my tendons."
  • Henry skimmed over Chester's injury, feeling a hint of pleasure inside. Though he knew the answer, he asked, "How did you get it?"
  • Shuddering at the thought, Chester complained, "That woman had actually brought a scalpel! She was so skilled that it was amazing. When I went to the hospital, the doctor said that she nearly got my aorta. I nearly lost my life before I could even enjoy myself, so I wanted to ask you, where did you find that woman?"
  • Upon hearing that he wasn't able to take advantage of Samantha, Henry was in a good mood, and he slowly leaned back against the back of his chair, his face as cold as ever. "Why are you looking for her?"
  • "Revenge, of course."
  • Chester had never taken such a huge loss before. Regarding Samantha's career and her personal life, he didn't know anything at all.
  • "If you want revenge, you can do it yourself."
  • Chester was rendered speechless by his words before he said resentfully, "Forget it, I'll figure it out myself. Once I find her, I'll ruin her hands first. I'll see if she still dares to cut me after that!"
  • In the hospital, Samantha emerged from the examination room with a cold shiver, inexplicably feeling a chill wash over her. Did someone just curse me?
  • "Dr. Yeager, remember to come to Dr. Cash's farewell party tonight. It's at eight o' clock in section B of Grand Resort." One of her colleagues reminded her upon seeing her.
  • Samantha's hands were wrapped in the pockets of her white coat, and though she replied with a hum, she was extremely reluctant to go. When she thought about Wisteria and Henry's relationship, she felt her heart go cold.
  • At eight o'clock in the evening, Samantha arrived at the venue of the farewell party. However, just as she was about to enter, she saw a car stop at the entrance. Wisteria got out of the car, followed by Henry. At the sight, she quickly hid behind a pillar and peeked her head out.
  • They look good together. Henry must really like Wisteria if he is willing to come to an event like this. Almost everyone from the hospital will be at the farewell party today, right?
  • "Thank you for coming today." Wisteria spoke with a hint of bashfulness, decked out in an elegant one-piece dress with her face delicately made up.
  • Henry said, "We're friends."
  • The only reason why he was willing to show up at an event like this was purely because of the affair from that night.
  • Wisteria wanted to be closer to him, but her previous words had now become a hindrance to the two of them, so she could only maintain her dignity and say, "Let's go in."
  • Samantha only came out from behind the pillar after they left. She was repelled by the idea of having to face Henry, and after racking her brains, she decided to call Wisteria and explain that she couldn't attend due to an emergency.
  • Just as she pulled out her phone and was about to dial her number, one of her colleagues came over and called out to her. "Hey, Dr. Yeager."
  • In front of her, Wisteria turned around.
  • Samantha's hand stiffened around her phone for a moment, causing her to accidentally press on the dial button. By the time she realized it, Wisteria's phone was already ringing.
  • She hurriedly hung up, pulling the corners of her lips into a smile while apologizing, "Sorry, I mistapped."
  • Upon hearing the somewhat familiar voice, Henry turned around and saw Samantha standing not far away from them in a comical posture with her phone in her hand. He couldn't help but raise his eyebrows at the sight, wondering, Is this woman a doctor at Mercy Hospital too?
  • Wisteria smiled warmly. "It's all right."
  • As she spoke, she moved closer to Henry's side. Meanwhile, Samantha went along with Henry's request for her not to present herself as his wife outside and simply pretended not to recognize him.
  • "Is this your boyfriend?" she asked with a smile, her eyes as bright and clear as a pool of water.
  • Wisteria didn't explain, giving others the wrong impression that he was.
  • Henry did not deliberately deny it as well, wanting to see Samantha's reaction. He turned his attention to her.
  • Samantha laughed lightly and complimented, "You really are a match made in heaven."
  • For some reason, when Henry looked at the smile on her face, he wanted to rip it off her lips.
  • Knowing how 'evil' Henry was, Samantha hurriedly made her escape and said, "I won't bother you anymore. I'll go in first."
  • She took hold of the colleague who just called her and quickly strode inside.
  • After they were some distance away, the colleague whispered, "That man is the president of Dragondale Group. He's young and talented. How I envy Dr. Cash for being so blessed to date a man like him."
  • Samantha didn't answer.
  • Her colleague continued, "Tell me, how can such a perfect man exist? He's rich, handsome, and even has a good figure…"
  • "How do you know he's perfect? He might be a pervert." Samantha couldn't help but recall how he nearly strangled her to death. It would be a compliment to just call him a pervert.
  • The colleague couldn't help but laugh at her words.
  • Still, Wisteria was quite respectable, for even the hospital director had shown up. As all of the hospital's staff came together, section B was fully booked.
  • "Dr. Yeager, you can sit at this table." Samantha was just about to head toward a table at the far corner when the hospital director, Joseph, called out to her.
  • When she glanced back, Henry was looking at her. She immediately smiled at the hospital director, saying, "I…"
  • "Come on now." Joseph went over and dragged her to a seat.
  • Hence, she was forced to stay at this table, but she felt as if she was sitting on pins and needles and didn't even dare to look up.
  • "Dr. Yeager and Dr. Cash are both classmates and colleagues, and since Dr. Cash is about to leave for Northshore General Hospital, you should toast her," Joseph suggested with a bump on Samantha.
  • "She can't drink." Henry suddenly spoke up.
  • The crowd was shocked. How did Henry know if she can drink or not?
  • Samantha was also surprised, and as soon as she raised her gaze, she met Henry's half-smiling eyes, causing her hands under the table to clench together tightly.
  • What is he trying to do this time?!
  • Wisteria sensed something unusual, but did not take it to heart, thinking that she had misheard him.
  • "Due to our profession, we can't drink much alcohol. Dr. Yeager and I have always been close, so even if I leave, I'll still miss her." Since the start, the light smile never left Wisteria's face, and she behaved generously and demurely.
  • Suddenly, Henry's cell phone rang, and he picked it up. Nobody knew what the other end said to him, but he merely responded with a simple "I understand" before he hung up.
  • He had just placed his phone down when Samantha's phone rang as well. After she picked up, she heard Stanley's voice. "Madam, please come over to the mansion. Master wants to see you, now."
  • Samantha replied, "All right."
  • After hanging up, she said to Wisteria, "Something urgent came up, so I have to go. Uh, I'll use tea as a substitute to give you a toast. I wish you all the best."
  • Saying that, she picked up the cup of tea on the table and downed it in one go.
  • Just as she got up, Henry's gaze fell on her, and there was a hint of playfulness at the corners of his lips as he commented, "What a coincidence. Something's come up for me too. Do you want to leave together?"
  • Samantha was rendered speechless.
  • For some reason, when he saw Samantha pretending not to know him, he felt extremely irritated and wanted to see how long she could keep the act up.
  • At his words, everyone turned to look at Samantha.
