Chapter 6 The Insult to Her Pride

  • Henry looked up and raised his eyebrows slightly to emanate an oppressively commanding aura. "Hmm?"
  • Aaron clenched his teeth. "Never mind. I'll put up with this for the sake of your happiness."
  • Henry darted a look at him with imperturbable dark eyes. "Let's go."
  • Xavier started the car and drove away.
  • Aaron felt that he had to do something for Samantha. Just when he turned back to look for her, he saw her coming out of the hospital. "Samantha!" he said, walking up to her.
  • Samantha looked at him with a smile. "I've got to go back."
  • Aaron felt bad while looking at her. "Uh, Samantha, I'll try my best to help you find a matching heart for your mother as soon as possible."
  • Samantha's heart clenched at the thought of Yvonne. She tried hard to conceal her feelings, but her quavering voice betrayed her emotions. She asked, "Really?" Unlike other organs, a suitable heart was difficult to wait for, and some would die without ever getting a matching heart for a transplant. "Thank you so much, Aaron." Her eyes reddened slightly as she didn't know how to express her gratitude.
  • "It's nothing. We're friends, no?" Aaron felt very embarrassed. If it weren't for Henry, Samantha would've been one step closer to her dream. "Let me send you home."
  • Samantha quickly refused, "No, it's not necessary." She turned down the offer since… she wasn't going back to Yeager Residence.
  • Aaron didn't insist either.
  • After parting ways with Aaron, Samantha took a taxi back to the villa while feeling much more relaxed, thinking that Henry would probably never set foot here.
  • Seeing that she didn't seem as ill at ease as she had been when she first moved in, Wilma asked with a smile, "Did something good happen? You look quite happy."
  • Samantha lowered her head while changing into her slippers in the hallway. "I'm happy to live with you. Just the two of us, I mean."
  • Wilma was rendered speechless.
  • "You mean I'm an unnecessary extra?"
  • This voice belongs to… Samantha looked up to see the man standing in the living room. Giving off chilly vibes, he looked at her condescendingly with a hint of disgust. If she hadn't seen him before in financial magazines and on TV, she probably wouldn't have recognized him as her so-called husband. Even so, she didn't expect him to show up. "Why are you… back?" She was totally unable to figure out what he was up to. He detests our marriage, doesn't he? He shouldn't have wanted to see me.
  • Henry's face fell, and his brow darkened. "What's the matter? Do I have to get your permission to come back?"
  • Samantha lowered her head. Indeed, she was the one who'd "intruded" upon his territory.
  • Henry tossed a divorce agreement onto the table. "Sign it."
  • Samantha darted a look at the table, though she wasn't surprised. After all, Henry was justified in asking for a divorce. It was just that she couldn't agree to their divorce at the moment because she had to wait until Yvonne had undergone surgery. "H…" she began, only to find herself at a loss for how to address him. "Could you—"
  • "You want to stay married?" Henry cut her short before she could finish her sentence. He didn't seem to be surprised by her reaction. If she had agreed to their divorce without hesitation, she wouldn't have made such a despicable request by asking him to marry her. "Great. I hope you won't regret it," he said before walking outside.
  • Obviously, he got the wrong idea.
  • Samantha wanted to explain herself, but as she tried to catch up to him in a panic, she tripped over the doorsill by accident, causing the handbag she was carrying to drop to the floor and spill its contents all over the floor. She quickly squatted down to pick everything up, but something seemed to be missing. After searching for it, she spotted it at Henry's feet. Almost instinctively, she reached out her hand for it in an attempt to conceal it.
  • Unfortunately, someone stepped on the blister pack just when she managed to touch it.
  • She looked up to see an expressionless Henry, who seemed to become interested when he noticed how nervous she looked. He bent down, moved his feet away, and picked up the blister pack. The blister pack contained two tablets, but one of them had been taken, so only one was left.
  • He turned the packaging around to see the word 'Plan B' on it. He might not be able to recognize this drug for a moment, but there was a line below that read, 'Emergency contraceptive.' He'd be an idiot if he didn't understand what these words meant.
  • He lowered his eyes to stare at the panic-stricken woman who was lying prone on the ground. Looking expressionless, he asked in a tone of amusement and mockery, "You slept with a man on our wedding night?" At this very moment, he felt terribly sick of this woman.
  • Samantha's fingers slowly curled into fists. Suppressing the shiver within her, she slowly stood up. She didn't say a word in retort, because she had no way of countering his sarcasm. "I didn't want to marry you," she said in a quavering voice.
  • Henry found it disgusting to see how she said one thing and meant another. He threw the blister pack in his hand at her face, making a fine, shallow cut at the corner of her eye.
  • Samantha instinctively squeezed her eyes shut for a moment, but the cut on her face didn't hurt her as much as how it broke her heart when he insulted her pride by flinging the blister pack at her at this very moment. Biting her lips lightly, she bent down, picked up the medication, and clutched it with all her might. The thin blister pack hurt the palm of her hand as she twisted it out of shape.
  • "You're craving for men, huh? I'll grant your wish, then," Henry said before leaving.
  • However, after just one night, Samantha realized what his words meant.
  • Just when she was about to leave home for work in the morning, Xavier showed up at the villa.
