Chapter 14 Had to Deal With It

  • Xavier was not quite sure either. He was just as surprised to see the two of them chatting and eating together. If he hadn't happened to pass by that restaurant, he wouldn't have noticed.
  • "How about calling Dr. Cuomo to ask him?" he suggested.
  • Henry hummed faintly, and Xavier went to make the call. Twenty or so minutes later, Aaron arrived at the office.
  • As soon as he entered, he said, "What a coincidence. I have something to talk to you about…"
  • "You know Samantha?"
  • Before he could finish, he was interrupted, and he froze for a moment before he nodded. "Yes, she was my junior at school, and she was the one who treated your injuries last time."
  • Henry leaned back on the brown leather sofa, his eyes dark, and his long and thick eyelashes fluttered a little at his words. It was her that day? This took him by surprise.
  • "Oh, right." Aaron walked over and took a seat. "Henry, can you be nicer to her?"
  • Henry raised his eyebrows, leaning back casually. Anyone who knew him well would know that the more relaxed and casual he was, the darker his thoughts were. Are Aaron and Samantha that close? Inexplicably, he felt unhappy, but he couldn't figure out why he felt that way.
  • In a low voice, he asked, "Why are you helping her? What's your relationship with her?"
  • "We were schoolmates, graduating from the same medical university and all. She was two years behind me. I heard that her father had a second wife and treated her and her mother very badly. When she went to school, she had to take part-time jobs to pay for her tuition. She was quite pitiful." Aaron intentionally spoke for Samantha. Using this opportunity, he hoped that Henry would let her go without making her lose her job.
  • "We're rather good friends. That's why I'm always on the lookout for her. Henry, for the sake of her mother who is still sick and needs a lot of money for her treatment, just forgive her once, okay? Without a job, she doesn't even have a way to survive."
  • Leaving no stone unturned, he concluded, "I don't know how she upset you, but can you do this for my sake?"
  • Though Henry remained unmoving on the surface, his heart wavered for a moment. From the sound of it, she did seem to be quite miserable. However, this was definitely not a reason for him to forgive her.
  • His posture became even more languid and relaxed as he leaned back, and said in a somewhat playful manner, "If you want me to forgive her, sure. Tell her to come and beg me herself."
  • Aaron could tell that Henry still hadn't cooled off and explained, "If she wasn't desperate, she wouldn't have come to me."
  • He knew that Samantha did not like to trouble others.
  • Hearing that, Henry scoffed. Desperate? If she really was desperate, why didn't she come to me? She isn't that hopeless yet!
  • "Henry…"
  • Aaron was still trying to speak up for Samantha, but Henry refused to listen. "I already told you, tell her to come to me by herself."
  • His tone was already clearly impatient. Aaron understood that it was useless for him to continue, thus said, "In that case, don't make things too difficult for her, considering that she has treated your injuries before."
  • Henry's nonchalant gaze slid over to him. "Do you like her?"
  • Is that why he's helping her so much? Are they that close? The man that Samantha is seeing is not him, right?
  • Aaron hurriedly explained, "No, I like her… Actually, to be exact, I admire her. In fact, she's quite likable… Back then during our school days, there were many guys who liked her and went after her, but she rejected them all. She's a pure and sweet girl. If I didn't have someone I liked, I might've fallen for her, haha…"
  • Henry shot him a mocking look, thinking, You must be blind. How is she pure? If she's a good girl, would she go to another man on her wedding night and cheat on me?
  • At that thought, Henry's face darkened, but Aaron didn't notice. Though he sighed inwardly, there was nothing he could do. After he left the office, he stood at the entrance and called Samantha.
  • After parting with Aaron, Samantha went to visit her mother in the hospital and received a call from him while she was on her way. He apologized for not being able to convince Henry.
  • Knowing Henry's temper, she said, "It's okay. You shouldn't take it to heart either."
  • After hanging up, she collected herself and walked into the inpatient department. However, when she walked in, the nurse saw her and said, "Your mother is awake."
  • Samantha asked excitedly, "Really?"
  • The nurse replied, "Yes, hurry up and go see her. I was just about to give you a call."
  • "Thank you."
  • Her mother had been transferred to the general ward. When she pushed the door open, she saw her mother open her eyes. At first, she walked over hesitantly, then strode over.
  • "Mom…" She wanted to smile at her mother, but she was too overwhelmed, and tears fell from her eyes.
  • "Samantha…" Yvonne weakly raised her hand.
  • Samantha hurried over to hold it. This was probably the most comforting thing she could do.
  • "I'm sorry, Samantha…"
  • Yvonne knew how serious her illness was. The fact that she was recovering now meant that Samantha must have agreed to Richard's request and married into the Baker Family. If not, she wouldn't have been able to afford the treatment costs.
  • Yvonne's eyes were red as she said, "Seeing you sacrifice yourself like that, I'm better off dead…"
  • "Mom." She grasped Yvonne's hand tightly. "Without you, how would I be here?"
  • If her mother hadn't suffered a difficult birth when having her and damaged her body so much she couldn't have any more children, Richard wouldn't have hated her so much and cheated on her with another woman.
  • "Are you… doing well in the Baker Family?" Yvonne looked at her daughter and asked cautiously, afraid that if she married into their family like this, she would be looked down upon.
  • Samantha forced a smile to reassure her. "I'm doing fine. Grandpa and… Henry are very good to me. Don't worry too much about me. You, on the other hand, have to take care of your body now," she said, feigning breeziness.
  • Yvonne hummed in reply, looking a little tired. As she still needed to rest now, Samantha stayed with her and only got up to leave when she fell asleep.
  • It was already dark outside. Though the weather was clearly hot, she felt a little cold. She knew that there were some things that she had to face. For example, Henry. Knowing that she couldn't hide from him, she took out her phone and prepared to contact him. She would accept whatever he wanted to do to her.
  • However, just as she was about to call him, she realized that she didn't have his phone number, so she could only go back to the villa. Yet, at the door, she saw Henry's car.
  • He came back to the villa?
