Augustus got home late that night. He did not mention a peep about dinner at the Adler residence. I sighed in relief. He probably doesn't want to make things more awkward than they already are. I guess I can skip dinner tomorrow.
I slept well that night, waking up naturally to the morning sun.
Augustus drove us both to work that morning.
“Mr. Adler, Colter told me that Wendy's preparing supper for us tonight!” I told him excitedly as I recalled Colter's words from last night.
Wendy was an amazing cook. I had two heaping bowls of her chicken soup the other day. I salivated as I imagined the dishes Wendy would be whipping up for us later that night.
Augustus glanced lightly at me before saying, “Colter told me about it as well, but I refused their offer.” My heart sank in an instant.
