Chapter 15 Learning His Name

  • I went silent because everything he said was true; I couldn't refute that. Of course, I wished there would come a day where I did not have to avoid Tiger and bear whatever misery I would always go through in the nightclub.
  • Mr. Adler caressed my head before saying, “I won't be here for the next few days. If you need something, just let Mannie know.”
  • “Where are you going?” I blurted out, but then it dawned on me that I was in no position to question him. “Um, pretend you didn't hear me,” I added awkwardly.
  • “I need to take care of some personal matters. Here,” he uttered, taking out a mini box.
  • “This is...” I trailed off, staring at the box in surprise. The logo of a well-known brand from a certain country was on the top of the box, catching my eye. Mr. Adler had bought me the latest mobile device. A SIM card was already inside, and all the widely-used applications had been installed beforehand.
  • I took the phone from him and smiled. “Is this for me? I don't have your phone number, though.”
  • With that, the man fished out his own phone and tapped on some buttons. Shortly after that, the phone he just handed me rang. When I glanced down at the screen, I noticed the name “Augustus Adler” on it.
  • That was the first time I learned his name, and it was also the first contact name saved on my new phone.
  • At night, Augustus stayed with me with his arm wrapped around my body instead of returning to his room. It felt a bit awkward, but just as I felt like struggling free from his grip, he covered me with the duvet. “Don't worry. I'm not interested in doing those things you have in mind. I just need someone to hug 'cause I have trouble sleeping.”
  • My thoughts went sideways when I heard those words, yet I felt that something was amiss, which was odd.
  • I brushed that feeling aside. With such an amazing man holding me like this, I drifted off to dreamland.
  • Just as he had informed, Augustus was not present the next few days. Even Colter was nowhere to be found. However, the latter did arrange a chauffeur to drive me to and from work.
  • Truth be told, I was embarrassed to be treated in such a manner. Whenever I arrived at MIX, I could feel the judgment in people's eyes. Everyone assumed I was Augustus' sugar baby.
  • After swimming several laps in the pool, I changed my clothes and got ready to head on a walk. Unexpectedly, I bumped into some familiar figures in the hallway. My heart instantly started beating faster, and I quickly took a few steps back. However, I ran into someone behind me and the things in her hand fell to the ground, creating a deafening sound.
  • “Watch where you're going! Are you blind?”
  • It was Lisa from the second floor. Her eyes glimmered with anger as she glared at me before crouching to pick up her items.
  • “I'm sorry, Lisa. I didn't mean to. Let me help you.” I immediately squatted to gather her stuff. From the moment I did so to the moment she left in a huff, I wished to flee the scene as soon as possible.
  • Unfortunately, the commotion from earlier had attracted the attention of the men in front. They turned their heads towards me and stared dead into my eyes before starting to approach me.
  • It was Tiger and his subordinates. “Huh. I thought you left the city, but you're here, I see.”
  • The man might be thinner than before, but he was still eye-catching. Tiger was staring at me as if he was going to swallow me alive.
  • I forced a tight smile. “What a coincidence, Tiger.”
  • “You work here?” he questioned as he fixated his gaze on me.
  • My mind went blank for a second, but my smile remained on my lips. “Yes. I work for MIX now.”
  • Since this is Augustus' territory, I believe he won't do as he pleases.
  • Tiger frowned for a moment before a strange smile crept onto his face. “I can't believe an exquisite place like MIX has allowed someone like you to work for them. You sure have your ways, don't you?”
  • “What are you talking about? I need a job to put food on the table.” I stayed collected while trying to subtly observe the surrounding environment in case he attempted to do something. All I had to was yell and perhaps, a bodyguard would show up.
  • Unpredictably, he only waved his hand and left with his subordinates, not forgetting to shoot me one last look before disappearing from my sight.
  • As long as I stay here, he won't do anything to me.
