As per our original plan, Colter drove me back home first before sending Augustus to Boyard Corporation. None of us spoke along the way. I was still reeling from the shock of finding out that Lydia had a secret affair with Hannah's father. Augustus, on the other hand, had his eyes closed, seemingly deep in thought. Colter didn't know what happened, but he could probably sense the gravity of the situation. Thus, he wisely kept silent in front of Augustus and focused on driving us to our respective destinations.
Once back home, I took a short nap. Perhaps these past two days had been mentally exhausting for me, I actually drifted off into a deep and dreamless sleep that afternoon. The sky was already dark by the time I woke up. Feeling hungry, I washed up and put on a coat before going out to hunt for food.
Augustus' house wasn't located in a very remote area. At least compared to other wealthy family mansions, this was still considered the city center.
Before coming out, I had searched around the enormous house for a long time but still couldn't find any small change. Hence, I slipped out a hundred from my purse and went to a nearby convenience store to ask for some. Then, I walked to the bus station to get a ride.
It had been a long time since I took the bus. As I stood beneath the bus stop sign, I couldn't help but reminisce about the past. When I was in university, I'd be on cloud nine every time I took the bus home. At that time, holidays were a luxury to me; something worth looking forward to.
Somewhere along the line, I had lost that luxury and could no longer smile as effortlessly as before. Since joining the nightclub business, my life became dark and somber, but at least Augustus had temporarily taken me away from that place, so I knew I should feel grateful. But for some reason, my heart constantly felt heavy.
