• I took a deep breath and kept talking to Mateo because the words were coming easier now even though my heart was beating fast. After Guilia died my father changed. He started introducing me to important people and one of them was Lucien. He was nearly thirty years old and very powerful in the family business. My father hoped I would marry him so it would make our family stronger and safer. At first Lucien seemed like a dream. He brought me flowers and nice gifts. He listened when I talked and told me I was beautiful and special. For a short time I almost believed I could have a normal life with someone who cared about me. We went for walks in the garden and he held my hand gently. He kissed my cheek softly and said sweet things that made me feel warm inside. I started to trust him a little and that was my big mistake.
