• "The council has rendered a judgment." Elder Theon Vale's voice, a blade of chilled steel, cut through the air. He scowled at Rhea, but addressed the gathering. "Having heard the evidence brought before us, and with one ruling of the Circle of Authority, we find that Alpha Draven's actions, while excessive, were in defense of a fated Omega. Blaze Draven is acquitted on the charge of unlawful killing."
• A collective exhale of relief swept through the room. Blaze's low growl of satisfaction was too soon, however, for his relief was fleeting. Theon didn't quite complete.
• "Still," Theon continued, his gaze on Rhea, "this council will not, and cannot, permit the demonstration of insubordination and disrespect shown by Omega Mooncrest. The blatant disrespect of order, the perversion of sacred traditions, and the wanton claims of Omega 'power' are poison to this pack's health."
