- "She's gone." Ash's tone was a low, threatening snarl that hung in the quiet air of The Lake House. He stood by the window, the sun now bruised orange on the horizon, the empty bed where Rhea had slept just hours earlier a cold reminder of her absence.
- Zane took a shaking breath. "Gone? What do you mean, 'gone'? She was here. We were all here. We slept here."
- "I cleared the perimeter," Kai said, his voice a shade sharper than normal with fear. "She didn't take her satchel. No extra clothes. She didn't leave a note. Nothing."
