• "Ash, I don't feel well." Rhea's whisper was breathy, her voice hardly louder than a breeze, as she lurched into Alpha Row. The journey back from the Whisperpine Forest had been arduous, her body still acclimating from the stifling, claustrophobic heat. Ash had carried her much of the way, his quiet form a solace, never once breaching the unspoken line she had set.
• "Rhea!" Zane was by her side in an instant, the mischievous boy erased from his face and replaced with genuine worry. "You're white. You're shaking. Is it. is it happening again?"
• "No. It can't," she grumbled, her hands clutching her belly. "It just stopped. It was so intense. I can't. I can't do another one."
