I didn’t know that we were already at the stage where his parent wanted to see me. Startled, I looked at him, biting down on my fork, “Can’t you wait until I’m done with this meal to tell me that? I just might ruin my appetite.”
“My mother is gentle and kind and beautiful and elegant. I promise that she won’t ruin your appetite.”
“That’s not what I mean.” Sang Qi was such a fine person, in more ways than one, so I figured that his mother must be a sight to behold, in the good sense.
“Don’t tell me that you’ve already said yes for me to your mother on the phone.”
“Don’t tell me that you’re too chicken to say yes over just meeting up with my mother.”
Who’s too chicken? How scary can it be? It was simply meeting someone. I’ve met plenty of people already in my life.
