Chapter 10 Get Rid of Her and the Job Is Yours

  • Ms. Yao was certainly trying her best to marry into a rich and powerful family. Even I had to say it was indeed quite impressive.
  • I always believed that anyone who made real efforts to achieve their goals was worth my respect, as long as they did not breach the law.
  • Sparing her one last glance to chuckle softly in amusement, we finally arrived at our destination and got off accordingly. I followed Sang Qi to Dayu Group while Ms. Yao stealthily trailed after us.
  • On the way there, I looked up the woman in the search engines and found out her identity. Her name was Yao Keyi, and she was a celebrity who was still far from being a well-known figure. Judging by the few commercials and supporting roles she appeared in, they were clearly the only best resources she could get.
  • According the results too, she was not acknowledged as Sang Qi’s girlfriend yet, and was more like a potential partner that had been seen going out with him on regular dates.
  • Her current circumstances explained why she was obviously restless and desperate. If she lost Sang Qi, she would also forfeit her chance to grab the best opportunity ever presented to her.
  • I went to the lobby with Sang Qi, and just when I was about to ride the elevator with him, a security guard stopped me, “Excuse me, ma’am. This elevator is for CEO only. Please take that one over there.”
  • Taking a look at where he directed me, I saw a long line queueing up for the lift.
  • I deflated visibly; it would surely take forever to get in there.
  • Beaming at the security guard in response, my mind thought of a way to get out of the situation in haste. I pointed at the ceiling and exclaimed dramatically, “Look, UFO!”
  • Surprisingly, he was distracted by my sudden declaration. I sneaked into the elevator and pressed the closing button swiftly after succeeding in diverting his attention away from me.
  • Sang Qi, who had remained quiet all throughout the whole ordeal, fixed his eyes on the changing number that indicated our current location and asked steadily,
  • “Is this how you journalists make a living?”
  • “Well,” I rubbed my nose, “You got to trim the sails sometimes.”
  • After a pause, he said, “What do you want?” My eyes widened at his inquiry, not expecting that he would willingly ask for my opinion.
  • I considered my options seriously before answering confidently, “Head of your secretaries.”
  • He smiled sulkily this time.
  • I puzzled over the weird change in his expression. It was baffling, especially since whenever I managed to piss him off, he would merely put on a cold smile to express his increasing annoyance at my antics.
  • “You really are too bold.”
  • Shrugging my shoulders at his comment, I proceeded to expound on my case, “I heard that your previous head of secretaries is working abroad at present, so now, the position remains vacant. Given that you made a complaint against me, you must have been informed of my background as well. I was hardworking and capable back in my previous job. I think I’m sufficiently qualified for the task.”
  • “You’ve done your homework,” the elevator chimed upon reaching the designated floor and stopped. Sang Qi walked out, not bothering to see if I was behind him.
  • “See? I’m always prepared. Why not give me a chance?” I pushed, shamelessly selling myself out while I closely matched his quickening strides.
  • He pushed a glass door open to reveal the luxurious interior decorations filling up the space inside. With the evident impressiveness and grandiose of the place, it must be his own office.
  • I lodged a foot between the gaps to stop him from closing the door, “So, what do you think?”
  • “I can always choose one from the existing secretaries,” he remarked, glancing down at my foot as he did.
  • “You won’t be opening the slot for recruitment if you trusted any of them.”
  • In an instant, he kicked my foot away nonchalantly.
  • His abrupt action almost caused me to fall on my face due to the sharp loss of balance. He paid no heed to my incident and was about to walk away from me when a secretary came to report hurriedly,
  • “Mr. Sang, Miss Yao is in the lobby and she said she needs to see you urgently.”
  • Sang Qi’s aura darkened considerably before he turned to me, “If you can get rid of her, you’ll be free to pick any position you want.”
  • I hissed in pain at my throbbing leg while his words slowly registered in my mind.
  • He did not wait for any reply of confirmation from me and just slammed the door shut behind him.
  • The secretary was dumbfounded at his brusqueness, “What made Mr. Sang so angry today?” I smiled unsurely, not able to give an adequate answer as I myself did not know the reason either.
  • I went downstairs as ordered and saw that Yao Keyi was yelling at a security guard, “Do you know who I am? How dare you stop me? You are merely a watchdog!”
  • I frowned. It was extremely unprofessional of her to act so barbaric. The lack of level-headedness only further emphasized her dimness in handling specific situations, and it was honestly an embarrassing and unforgivable behavior for her to display.
  • For influential men like Sang Qi, a woman who would make such a messy scene at his workplace would be pegged as an unbefitting candidate for a girlfriend of his standing.
  • Being sensible was the basic requirement,
  • and apparently, Yao Keyi was not aware of that.
  • I straightened up before going to her and grinning, “Ms. Yao, would you like to have a drink?”
  • She stopped her tantrum at my words and gave me a side glance full of malicious intent, “Who do you think you are, you slut?”
  • “I’m Mr. Sang’s secretary.”
  • Yao Keyi froze, her mouth fumbling for a proper reply to give to my statement, “Secretary? Aren’t you a journalist?”
  • “I’m his secretary, the backup one,” I faked a casual laugh and linked my arm with hers naturally, “Miss Yao, you haven’t had breakfast yet, have you? Let me join you.”
  • “I don’t want you to,” she tried to pull away from my grip, but I refused to give in to her strength.
  • “Mr. Sang’s worried about you. That’s why he sent me here.”
  • My sincere delivery of words seemed to have worked,
  • her rigid posture finally relaxing slightly as she let me veer her away from the company.
  • I led us both to a restaurant nearby and ordered a hearty meal for her and myself. I had previously eaten beforehand, but I had to accompany her for breakfast if I wanted to have a proper conversation with her.
  • As we settled down, Yao Keyi glared as she examined me carefully, “I know that Sang Qi was with you last night.”
  • “But nothing happened,” I said off-handedly, accepting the food from the waiter gratefully. I allowed myself to meet her gaze to impart my genuineness while swallowing a piece of scrambled egg.
  • “I don’t believe in you.”
  • “You don’t have a choice. If you don’t, Mr. Sang will assume that you want a breakup.”
  • Red painted her cheeks in pure wrath at my earnest suggestion, “What did you just say?!” She shrieked, pointing an accusing finger at me, “See? I knew you were his mistress!”
  • I put down my utensils and addressed her properly. After all, I had no intention to cause a scandal in a crowded restaurant.
  • I stopped her, prompting her to lower her voice, “Can’t you understand what I meant? I was trying to tell you that if you keep acting like a willful child, you’ll be dumped before you know it.”
  • She seethed, “But he hasn’t slept with me.”
  • Stunned by her response, I racked my brain hard to deduce what she had implied.
  • All this time, she had been thinking that Sang Qi would not simply dump her because they had not engaged in intercourse yet.
  • Deeply astonished by her logic, I placed my chin on the palm of my hand and regarded her with a calculating stare, “Why does he have to? If he didn’t sleep with you in the first week you dated, there’s a possibility that he never really wanted to.”
  • Her face paled at my insinuation.
  • “No way!” she jittered, “Just look at my body!”
  • I raised a brow and casted an uninterested glimpse at her form.
  • “I thought men only lose interest after sex.”
  • “But the problem is that he doesn’t even want to do it with you!”
  • She fumed, dropping her fork on her plate, “You’re telling me to quit, aren’t you?”
  • I sighed at her unbearable attitude. Based from my personal experience, I had learnt that threatening and yelling would never be the best solution to a dilemma,
  • but Yao Keyi did not understand that yet.
  • “I need to talk to him!” She stood up, her determination to push through showing by the way she clenched her shaking fists, “He never turned me down before!”
  • I seized her by arm quickly to haul her back to her seat, “Do you think you can reach his office with all those security guards? And, have you ever thought about his feelings? What if he feels more annoyed by what you’re doing?”
  • She exhaled, trying to calm herself and looked at me desperately, “Then, what should I do?”
  • What a waste, really. She surely was a brainless beauty.
  • “If I were you, I would go home and be a good girl.”
  • “What?! You’re just trying to make me leave! I’m not a fool!” She yelled, gnashing her teeth at me.
