Chapter 2 Just Some Guy With Raging Issues
- Seren’s POV
- After all the millions of maids in this castle got my mom and I settled in, she went out for dinner with Alpha Thorne and I’ve been in bed ever since. It’s midnight right now and I haven’t been able to get a second of sleep. I keep overthinking things. All of this seems too good to be true.
- Could this really be happening? After all this time, could it really be that my mom has finally found someone to love and call her own? I want to be happy for her, but every time I try to entertain the thought that this is my life now, I get pulled back down to earth by an intense gravity telling me that something wrong will happen and this will blow up in my mom’s face and she’ll be unhappy again.
- I’m so protective of my mom, so I don’t want to let myself get too happy or comfortable in case something goes wrong. I haven’t even fully unpacked all my things because I have no idea if this will last or not.
- With a soft sigh I lift myself from my king-sized bed and make a decision to explore the mansion. It’s midnight. Everyone is asleep and I don’t think my mom and the Alpha will be back any time soon so for a few hours, I have time for myself.
- I pass through so many rooms that I cannot even believe this is an actual home and not some kind of mall. There is a cinema, an indoor pool, an at-home gym, a gaming room, a spa and so much more. It seems the place was built by a man who wanted to have many children, a big family but never got the chance.
- I stop in front of an art room my personal maid, Mia mentioned earlier when she was giving me the tour of the estate. She said the room belonged to Kael, the alpha’s son, and that he doesn’t really like anyone but himself going into the room, but as I stand in front of the door, I see a light seeping from under it and I hear soft music playing inside the room.
- I figure the door might be locked but curiosity gets the better of me and I grab the handle, twisting it gently. I smile when it unlocks, peeking into the room like a little thief. Before I can even get one foot through the door, strong hands grab my arm and pull me into the room with blinding speed.
- I gasp in surprise as I am pinned to the wall. Strong hands wrap around my neck, a dagger pressed so close to my abdomen that any slight movement from me would lead to me bleeding all over the marble floors. Being a werewolf, we heal faster than humans but that doesn’t mean I want to get stabbed. I stare into dark blue eyes, breathing heavily as my heart pounds with fear in my chest.
- “What the hell is your problem?” I cry out with a small voice and Kael looks down at me with a scowl on his face. Once he realizes who I am he lets me go and I go into a coughing fit as I try to catch my breath.
- “What do you think you’re doing sneaking around in the middle of the night? I could have killed you.” He questions with a deep voice void of any emotion as he crosses his arms over his broad chest, standing tall in front of me.
- “And were you not specifically informed during the tour of the estate that I don’t like people coming in here?” He adds.
- “You almost killed me and now you’re interrogating me?” I snap at him. My eyes scan the room as I attempt to put myself together, running my hands through my disheveled hair. There are paintings all over the walls, on chairs and even some unfinished ones on the floor.
- They all look beautiful.
- “Did you make these?” I ask him, dumbfounded as I almost forget about the fact that his hands were around my neck a few seconds ago. I have always been a sucker for art and paintings even though I can’t draw to save my life.
- With an annoyed sigh, he uses his werewolf speed and in a second, he’s in front of me again. His eyes darken with anger.
- “I don’t know what you think you’re doing but just because our parents are together doesn’t mean you and I need to be friends or even cross each other’s paths.”
- “I wasn’t trying to be your friend you self-obsessed jerk.” His eyes widen at my insult. Just who exactly does he think he is?
- “I just couldn’t sleep. I was wandering, that’s all.”
- He scoffs. “My father told me about you and your mother. She said you two have never been part of a pack so I guess you don’t really know the rules, but let me make something clear right now.” He gets impossibly close to me, his dark eyes piercing into my green ones.
- “You’re in my pack now, and as alpha of this pack, you are to lower your eyes when you talk to me and obey every single word I say, do you understand me.”
- I cock my head in amusement and when I realize how serious he is, I burst out laughing right in front of his face. His face twists in confusion at my reaction.
- I wipe a tear from the corner of my eye. “Oh my God, what era are you living in? I don’t know who you think you’re talking to but I definitely do not have to do anything I don’t want to. And last time I checked, your father is the current alpha. So really, that just makes you some narcissistic guy with raging issues.”
- Before he can respond to me, I turn my back and start walking towards the door. “Sorry for interrupting your playtime. There isn’t much to look at in here anyways.”
- I lie, knowing fully well that all I want to do is examine every piece of painting he’s ever made because I’m a nerd for art like that. I slam the door shut and hurry back to my room as my heart threatens to burst out of my chest.
