• Going back to school felt strange. Like stepping into a world that had kept turning without me.
• The building was alive in a way the pack house never was. Lockers slamming. Sneakers squeaking. Laughter bouncing down the hall. I’d spent too many nights wrapped in silence, my thoughts tangled with Kael’s voice and the faint burn of wolfsbane. Coming back here, fluorescent lights, chatter, the smell of floor polish and cafeteria grease was like being dropped into a storm when I hadn’t even learned to swim.
