- The training room was quiet except for the sound of my ragged breathing and the dull slap of my feet against the mat. Weapons lined the walls—gleaming steel, polished wood—but Kael hadn’t let me touch any of them yet. “Not until you can survive without them,” he’d told me on our first day.
