Chapter 95

• Max called to say he was going to spend one more day in New York. Emilia asked him why but he wouldn't answer. His lack of response put her on edge. Why did he need another day? Had he changed his mind after seeing Lisandra? She couldn't stop wondering about that. It was silly of her to think her husband would go back to the woman who'd killed their son. He wouldn't do that to her. But she couldn't help thinking that manipulative bitch had said something to change his mind.
• They'd known each other for a long time. When she had first gotten married to Max, Lisandra had told her how protective her husband was of her because she was his sister's friend. She'd gone ahead to prove to her what he was capable of doing for her. One time they'd gone out -Gwen and Lisandra- then an hour later, Lisandra had called, hysterical because some guy had tried to force himself on her. It was probably a lie she'd concocted just to prove her words. But Max didn't know that, and he'd left the house like a madman, rushing to rescue her. Now that Emilia thought about it, that was when she had started to truly feel insecure.
• Her husband was kind and loving. Traits she cherished but unfortunately those two made him easy to manipulate. To him, saving Lisandra from some asshole had been so important that he hadn't seen how she'd smiled when he asked her to spend the night at the Carter mansion. In fact, half of their fights had been about that witch and the other ones about his mother. Folding a black dress, Em realized that she couldn't always blame him for the years they'd spent apart. She was the one who had left. Granted he hadn't gone looking for her but she was always the one who gave Lisandra the opportunity to get into Max's head. If she hadn't left him, that bitch wouldn't have had the chance to be his mistress. She wouldn't be deluded to thinking Max had any feelings for her.
