Chapter 26

• Sui felt a painful stab in his left back leg. Before he knew it, he was already falling from the tree. Below him were the fallen livixeau’s waiting tusks to skewer him. He had no idea how he floated, it seemed, as someone caught him, and they rolled to the ground. His blurry vision and foggy brain still registered the masked face, and he smiled like an idiot while darkness came to take him into its arms.
• “You saved me,” were his weak words before fainting. He didn’t hear the general’s worried voice as she called his name.
• Ril’m whistled to alert her comrades of her location. She didn’t wait for anyone after that, though. There was a more important thing to do than to leave instructions to her comrades. Anyway, she knew they would understand when they’d find the dead beast. For now, she had to bring Sui back to the camp. Or maybe not. He might not make it. Her gi’z was left some mile or so from where she hunted.
