- I sat by the window, my legs curled underneath me, a mug of peppermint tea cupped in both hands. Outside, the world was quiet. Olive trees stood motionless in the golden haze of late afternoon, and beyond them, the hills rolled like soft shoulders into the distance. Our rented farmhouse—stone walls, uneven floors, too much charm for its own good—wasn’t exactly the city, but it felt like mine. It felt earned.
- I had one hand resting on my growing belly now, out of habit. It was strange. No kicks yet. Just the weight. The presence. Like someone knocking from the other side of the door, waiting to be let in.
