Chapter 60 Fears And Longing
- Sienna faced Adrian across his desk. After two long days of avoiding him, ducking his calls, and slipping out of rooms before he could corner her, Adrian had finally had enough. He had summoned her into his office and she had no choice but to obey. The door clicked shut behind her, the blinds drawn tight, the office cloaked in an intimacy she had not prepared for. Outside, twilight had deepened into a dark indigo blue that washed over the glass windows and seemed to echo Adrian’s brooding mood.
- Sienna’s face was beautiful but set in hard, mutinous lines. Her eyes stormed with resistance, the dark brown depths filled with challenge. If Adrian had not been able to see beyond that surface, if he had not caught the shimmer of fear glimmering beneath her brave mask, he might very well have told her to walk away, to take her defiance with her and never come back.
- But he saw her fear. He recognized it, felt it, understood it, because it was not unlike his own. He was frightened too. Terrified that this thing between them was too strong, too fast, too consuming. And yet, if there was going to be any chance of building something real, something lasting, then they would both need to face their fear instead of running from it.
