Chapter 56 The Dark Doorway
- The building looked worn down, almost forgotten, and Sienna Hart could not hide the doubtful glance she cast at it as she stepped out of the passenger seat. It loomed in front of her, tall and bleak, a two story warehouse set in the middle of a rundown industrial park. Corrugated iron flanked its sides, the walls streaked with rust and age. A crooked fire escape clung to one wall like a tired skeleton, its stairs leading from a boarded window that looked as though it had not been opened in decades.
- The street itself seemed just as forsaken. Broken glass scattered across the cracked sidewalks, glittering faintly under the dim glow of the lamps. Some lights flickered weakly while others had long since gone out. Trash spilled from overflowing dumpsters, old newspapers caught in the wind as they rustled past her feet. In the gutter, cigarette butts clung together in little heaps, and a single empty bottle of cheap wine rolled lazily until it tapped against the curb.
- Sienna shivered. The place felt desolate, forgotten by time, and her nerves screamed at her to turn around. Every step she took closer to the door was heavier than the last.
