• The room was heavy with silence after Elder Hosky’s pointed question. My heart pounded in my chest as every pair of eyes focused on me. Darius’s hand subtly brushed against mine, a silent encouragement. I took a deep breath and stood, meeting Elder Hosky’s gaze directly.
• “I have something to say,” I began in a firm voice despite the dread in my stomach. “Yes, I was present at the ceremony, but I was not a willing party. Rowan marked me against my will, and I was given no choice. My father’s guards chained me in silver chains, and brought me to the main hall where Rowan was present. I was forced to sit down as Rowan marked me.” The memories of him marking me forcibly came to my mind, and my eyes became moist.
