Chapter 27
- After her recent experience with work placements and assignments, Abigail was very reluctant to enter into an office environment again. But she still needed the work (despite her recent "windfall") and wanted the work experience.
- After talking to her father and because she had some First Aid training, he arranged for something a bit different; an assistant to the nurse at the local college. The college had a full-time nurse, a proper assessment room and nurses' office. The work would not be too demanding, depending on the problems and injuries encountered (usually just cuts and bruises). Abigail was not a qualified nurse, so would only be assisting the Nurse in carrying her duties.
- The incumbent, Nurse Dawson was a middle-aged battle axe. She treated the students as a matron would with a firm, no-nonsense approach. But she was more kindly towards Abigail. She acknowledged that Abigail at 18, was younger than even some of the students and not familiar with either the nursing profession or the college, and so was careful to make her feel welcome and showed her the ropes.
