Chapter 6

  • My stomach made an irking sound for the nth this hour. I get up from laying uncomfortably on this supposedly comfy bed. I should be sleeping peacefully now but my very much hungry stomach won't even let me take a nap.
  • I sauntered towards the mini-fridge. I breathe exasperatedly and grab another bottle of water from there. It's my third bottle of water tonight and even if I drown myself with it, it wouldn't be enough to suffice my untamed hunger.
  • I shut my eyes. I hold the water bottle hard and then throw it somewhere. After a fleeting second, I heard a crashing sound. My eyes quickly checked the direction where the noise came from. I covered my mouth automatically and started to panic after I saw that the bottle hit an expensive-looking painting. The said painting fell off the ground and got broken.
  • "What the fuck, Ibixa." I look around. I gulp simultaneously before I crawl to the spot where it fell and start picking up the broken glasses of its frame.
  • The door opened violently. With a gray pajama and white shirt on, Ender showed himself.
  • "Ouch." I let go of the broken glass' piece after I felt a pang of pain in my hands. A red fluid followed. I bit my lower lip and utter curses under my breath. Endeavor rushed to my side. He snatched my bleeding hand that I tried to take away from him but failed.
  • He stares at the mess on the floor. He clenched his jaw while I, on the other hand, started to sew up a story inside of my head to defend myself if he ever asked what happened there. And the painting. What am I gonna tell him about that?
  • An earthquake occurred here earlier, that's why it fell? In my head, I already slap myself. He's not gonna believe that. Even a toddler won't.
  • "What are you doing? You should be asleep." I took my hand from him again and closed it immediately after I succeeded. I felt another flicker of pain because of it.
  • I silently mimic him. His thick and well-shaped eyebrow lifts. I play with my tongue and then smile mockingly. "How can I? I'm starving, Ender."
  • I eyed the drawer near him. I think I saw a first-aid kit there earlier. I'll treat this damn wound after he leaves.
  • "Even if you cry a river, you won't have your dinner tonight. I give punishment to those who defy me and my commands. You're my wife but you're not an exception, Ibixa." I swallowed hard.
  • I clutch my stomach again after I feel it grow. I looked away to hide my tears. I moved my head bitterly, accepting the fact that he was a plain jerk and a monster. Heartless!
  • "I hate you," I whispered. Ender lifted my chin. My heart stops breathing, and my system shutss down as he leans closer to me and kisses my cheek. "I know, sweetheart. I know," he murmur near my ears.
  • The sun is starting to make everyone see and feel his presence but I haven't had a good sleep yet. My finger traces the cut in my left palm. Aside from the fact that I didn't get to sleep, this cut is evidence that whatever happened last nighwasn'tn't a dream.
  • I break the painting. Ender came here last night and he kissed me on my cheeks.
  • "Good Morning, Mrs. Mendeleev," Hedero greeted me with sunshine on her lift that almost faded as she realized that I looked so restless now. She didn't say anything, though. She walks to the French window and sweepss the see-through fabric of the curtain to the side, revealing the sun.
  • My eyes adjusted to the light of the sun that covered my room entirely. She brought back her gaze at me. "Where do you want to have your breakfast? In the garden or here?"
  • I snatch the robe from the rack and wear it as a new layer of fabric against my body. Using a ponytail that I found in one of the drawers in my dresser, I tied my hair. Meanwhile, Hedero waited patiently for my answer.
  • I was about to say that I wanna have my breakfast in the garden that I hadn't seen yet, but then I remembered Ender. He might be having his breakfast too. I shook my head to disagree with my idea.
  • "Mrs. Mendeleev, are you okay?"
  • "Yes." The corner of my lip stretches. "I'd like to have my breakfast here instead. I don't want to see him." She stopped herself from walking away.
  • "If you're trying to avoid Mr. Mendeleev, he already left for California before the sunshine," she said.
  • I look back at her, puzzled. He did? He stayed here for quite some time, yet he didn't say anything about leaving.
  • "Ohh." She raises her forefinger and gets back at me. She took a black iphone from the pocket of her apron and handed it to me.
  • I stare at it blankly. I'm not even allowed to use this to contact my parents so what is the purpose of this? Nonetheless, I accepted it. I heard the door close.
  • My deadpan eyes checked every application installed on the phone and neither one of them is something I can use to entertain myself. I continued swiping until I accidentally pressed the note and saw my name on it.
  • It got my full attention. I seated myself on the cream-colored couch.
  • "Ibixa, use this to communicate with me, only me, understood? Also, make sure that you'll tell me your whereabouts." I groaned and threw the phone on the bed.
  • Could he get bossier than this? My mind already knows how demanding he is that even his voices in my head sound terrifying!
  • The iPhone suddenly rings. Ender's name flashes. I thought he already left for California. How come he's calling me? If I remember correctly, passengers are not allowed to use their mobile phones while on board.
  • "Hello?"
  • "Go eat your breakfast now, baby." The line went dead. Okay, that's the weirdest phone call that I received!
  • Ender is a hella weird man.
