Chapter 8 Nyssa Leave The House For Good
- After leaving the house, Nyssa pulled out her phone, finding solace in the messages from her team. As she walked down the street with her bag, she read through the lively conversation.
- Team Chat:
- Liam: "Finally home! Mom’s already made my favorite meal. What about you guys?"
- Ava: "Caught up with my old friends. It’s nice, but I miss the base already."
- Sophia: "You guys won’t believe it, my dog remembered me! Best welcome ever."
- Nyssa smiled as she read their messages. They were all adjusting back to civilian life, even if it was just for a short while. Suddenly, a new message popped up.
- Ethan: "Hey, Nyssa! How’s your day been?"
- Nyssa hesitated for a moment. She didn’t want to worry them with her family drama. Instead, she typed back: "It’s been great! Just getting settled in. Miss you all already."
- Even though her words were cheerful, a pang of sadness hit her. She had once done everything for her family, hoping for their approval and love. Now, she was left with nothing but resentment.
- Nyssa found a nearby hotel and booked a room for a month. As a special forces officer, she had the means to ensure she was comfortable. Once in her room, she unpacked her belongings and gazed out the window. The sense of freedom washed over her, and she felt a small but significant piece of happiness.
- "I’m free," she whispered to herself. "No more pretending. No more being used."
- Feeling a bit more at ease, she decided to go shopping. It was time to treat herself and enjoy her newfound independence.
- **Meanwhile, Back at Nyssa's House:**
- Maxine and Clara stormed into Nyssa’s room, their faces twisted with anger.
- "Check if she took anything valuable," Maxine ordered, rifling through the drawers.
- Clara inspected the closet and the desk, finding everything in its place. "She didn’t take much. Just her bag."
- Maxine’s eyes narrowed. "We should have made her give us her monthly pay first. How are we supposed to manage without her money?"
- Clara pouted, crossing her arms. "What if she doesn’t come back, Mom? We need that money."
- Maxine scoffed. "We’ll figure something out. But we need to find a way to get her pay first. We can’t afford to lose that income."
- **At Alex’s House:**
- Ethan was roaming around, glancing at every corner. He was looking for Lily, Alex’s younger sister. With her beauty, she had captured his attention from the moment they met.
- Ethan pulled out his phone and messaged Liam.
- Ethan: "Hey, Liam. How do you impress someone you really like? Asking for a friend. 😅"
- Liam: "Lol, sure, ‘for a friend.’ Just be yourself, man. Maybe try not to scare her off with your usual nonsense."
- Ethan grinned, deciding to call Liam for more advice. As he chatted, he didn’t notice Alex coming up behind him.
- Liam: "So, this ‘friend’ of yours, how does he feel about this girl?"
- Ethan: "He thinks she’s an angel. I mean, she's perfect!"
- Suddenly, Alex’s voice cut through the conversation. "Who’s an angel?"
- Ethan turned slowly, finding Alex glaring at him. His face broke into a nervous smile. "Uh, hey Alex. Just, um, talking to Liam."
- Liam’s laughter echoed through the phone. "Good luck, buddy."
- Alex crossed his arms. "You’re talking about my sister, aren’t you?"
- Ethan’s face went pale. "Uh, well, you see... it’s not like that. I mean, she’s great, but..."
- Alex’s glare intensified. "Not. This."
- Ethan, realizing the gravity of the situation, bolted. Alex chased after him through the house. "Come back here, Ethan!"
- "I’m sooooooooorrrry!" Ethan yelled, his voice cracking with panic. "Liam, if I meet you right now, you are dead!" He ended the call abruptly.
- After a while, Ethan found himself kneeling in front of Alex, sweating bullets. Alex looked down at him with a serious expression.
- "She is my sister, Ethan," Alex stated firmly.
- Ethan gulped. "She... is... mmmmmmmmmmm..."
- Alex raised an eyebrow. "What?"
- Ethan took a deep breath. "Alex, you wouldn’t do anything to hurt your sister, right?"
- Alex huffed. "What’s your point?"
- Ethan clasped his hands together. "I promise I’ll just be her friend. Nothing more. I swear I’ll do my best."
- Alex’s stern expression softened slightly. "You better keep that promise, Ethan."
- Ethan nodded vigorously. "I will. I promise."
- Alex gave a small smile. "Good. Now, go clean up. You’re sweating all over the place."
- Ethan sighed with relief, muttering, "Thanks, Alex. You’re the best."
- **Later at the Hotel:**
- Nyssa returned from her shopping spree, feeling more relaxed. She had treated herself to new clothes and some gadgets. Sitting by the window, she looked out at the city skyline.
- "Freedom feels good," she murmured, feeling a sense of contentment she hadn’t experienced in years.
- **Back at Nyssa’s House:**
- Maxine and Clara continued their scheming.
- Clara frowned. "What if Nyssa never comes back? We can’t let that happen."
- Maxine’s eyes gleamed with malice. "We’ll have to make her life a living hell until she realizes she can’t survive without us."
- Clara smirked. "I like the sound of that. Let’s make sure she knows she’s nothing without our ‘support.’"
- Maxine nodded. "Agreed. But this time, she won’t find it so easy to escape."
- Nyssa started her day with her usual morning exercise routine in the park near the hotel. She found solace in her workout, a way to clear her mind and prepare for whatever the day might throw at her. As she completed her last set, she noticed her stepmother Maxine, her stepsister Clara, and Max approaching with determined strides.
- Clara was the first to speak, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "Oh, look who it is. How was your night on the street, Nyssa?"
- Nyssa didn't even flinch. With a cool and savage voice, she retorted, "Better than any night spent with you leeches."
- Clara’s face flushed with anger, and tears of frustration welled up in her eyes. Before she could retort, Maxine stepped forward, trying to get everyone's attention. She raised her voice, ensuring that the people around could hear her.
- "My daughter is unfilial!" Maxine declared dramatically. "We gave her everything, and how does she repay us? By breaking ties and letting her family starve! We sacrificed so much for her, and this is how she treats us."
- Nyssa crossed her arms and stared at her family, her expression unyielding. "Everything? What exactly did you give me, Maxine?"
- Maxine's eyes widened in feigned shock. "How dare you speak to me like that! We raised you, fed you, and gave you a roof over your head."
- Nyssa's voice was steady and cutting. "You raised me? No, you used me. You took my money, my opportunities, and left me with nothing but your demands and accusations. You didn’t even pay for my school or college fees. That was Grandpa, remember?"
- Clara stepped in, trying to regain control of the situation. "Don't twist the facts, Nyssa. You're just trying to make us look bad."
- Nyssa laughed coldly. "I don't need to twist anything. The truth speaks for itself. You all took advantage of me, and now that I’m not playing along, you’re desperate."
- Max, who had been silent until now, tried to assert his authority. "You ungrateful brat. We did everything for you. And this is how you repay us?"
- Nyssa’s eyes narrowed. "Did everything for me? Let’s get one thing straight, Max. You did everything for yourselves. You saw me as nothing but a paycheck. And now that I’ve cut you off, you're scrambling."
- Maxine's voice grew shrill. "You have no right to talk to us like this! We are your family."
- Nyssa took a step closer, her gaze never wavering. "Family? A real family supports and loves each other. You three? You’re parasites, feeding off of my success and giving nothing in return."
- Clara, desperate to regain some ground, shouted, "You're lying! Everyone knows how much we did for you!"
- Nyssa’s lips curled into a smile. "If that were true, why am I the one who paid for my education? Why am I the one who supported this family financially while you all just took and took?"
- The onlookers began to murmur, the truth of Nyssa’s words becoming evident. Maxine, realizing she was losing the battle, tried one last time to turn the crowd against Nyssa.
- "She’s lying! She’s always been ungrateful. We gave her everything, and now she’s trying to destroy us with her lies."
- Nyssa raised her voice, her tone authoritative and unyielding. "I’m not the one destroying this family, Maxine. You did that yourselves with your greed and manipulation. I’ve finally had enough. You can’t guilt-trip me anymore. You can’t manipulate me. I’m done."
- Max, Clara, and Maxine stood there, stunned and embarrassed. They had no more accusations to hurl, no more lies to tell. The crowd's murmurs grew louder, with people clearly siding with Nyssa.
- "You three should be ashamed," Nyssa continued. "You tried to ruin me, but you failed. Now, everyone sees you for what you really are."
- With that, Nyssa turned on her heel and walked away, leaving her stepmother, stepsister, and stepbrother standing there, humiliated and defeated. The onlookers parted for her, some offering sympathetic looks, others nodding in respect.
