• Octavia goes home feeling antsy. This was clearly not how she had expected things to end. As much as she'd like to think she had prepared herself for rejection, she had actually been confident. She'd been certain Asher had wanted her too, but not enough to fall into bed with her. If he didn't want sex, what exactly did he want? Perhaps, if she had still thought of him as an ordinary teen, she'd believe that he had a crush on her—maybe he would want a relationship? But he wasn't ordinary. He was no teen.
• She slammed her car door harder than necessary and stalked her way into the house. She had intended to spend the rest of the day in her room, avoiding her parents. But she didn't anticipate the third party currently lounging in the living room.
