Chapter 6
- DARLINGTON:
- I woke up in my bedroom to the fresh start of a brand new day. A New Year's Day. I was so excited, as I wanted to go downstairs to officially inform my parents that I wanted to get married this year, and I had made up my mind to settle down with Jenna Colton.
- Jenna has been my love for the past five years. I met her through her elder brother, Bruce, as he was my best friend in college.
- We studied the same business course, and we live in Country Z, in the heart of the city. The Colton family was also among the wealthy and well-known families here.
- Jenna has a successful career as an actress. She is also a model and has been featured as the face of many brands.
- I knew that Jenna had gone through cosmetic procedures to enhance her beauty, but I still love her nonetheless.
- I love Jenna very much, and I didn't regret my decision to propose to her last weekend to marry me.
- My father didn't react to my post, and to make matters worse, I couldn't find him online again after the news of my engagement to Jenna went viral.
- My father had purposely blocked me online so he wouldn't see me posting about Jenna again.
- My dad had warned me to stop posting about Jenna. But Jenna is the woman after my heart.
- How would I not post about the love of my life? That would mean I was cheating on her.
- I love Jenna very much, and she's like the air I breathe. I cannot live without her; this is what I tell her every time, and I know that Jenna was hesitant about accepting my engagement ring. But she knew that I had always wanted us to settle down.
- I had assured Jenna that she shouldn't worry about my father, and I would speak to him about agreeing and accepting our marriage.
- Jenna had told me that she wasn't ready for marriage now and had a lot to do in her modeling job, but I assured her that I wouldn't stop her from fulfilling her dreams just because she's my wife.
- I had supported Jenna before we started dating, and I am still supporting her now.
- I got out of bed and prepared to go downstairs to inform my father about my new marriage decision.
- My father detested Jenna and had warned me to stay away from her; more likely, I should tell her not to find me again in our company or visiting my office, but I cannot do that. I love Jenna very much, and I mean every word I said in confessing my feelings to her.
- I got into my bathroom. My room was vast enough to contain more than three luxury beds, and there would still be more space.
- I finished bathing and saw that the time was after 9 a.m. I woke up late because we had a New Year's Eve celebration at home.
- I was with my family, waiting to witness the fireworks and the crossing over to a brand new year.
- I cannot wait to become a father soon. I know Jenna was scared of getting pregnant, but I want to marry her and assure her that I will always be there for her.
- I entered my closet and took a purple shirt and black trousers, which I wore. I combed my short black hair.
- I like to keep my hair smooth, so I left it to grow slightly. I finished combing my hair and then applied my masculine perfume to smell fresh, like the New Year's Day.
- I wore my black slippers and exited my bedroom on the top floor of my father's large white mansion. We live in a standard duplex home, consisting of 8 rooms and a living room downstairs with a kitchen and several guest rooms.
- My father's mansion was massive because he was the one who had built it and told the constructors how it should be built.
- Jenna had told me that she didn't like to visit me here in my parents' home, as she knew that my father disapproved of her. I plan to buy a new house to move out, just like Bruce did. But when I told my mother about it that I planned on buying my own home, she frowned and said it was too early for me to be living alone now, except I want to live a wayward life. Mom said that when my father married her, they lived in my grandpa's house in the countryside before my father had money and moved to the city to get his own house.
- According to my mother, I shouldn't move out here until I have a child or two; then, I can move out of my father's house.
- Well, this didn't sit well with Jenna, and I promised her that I would get a house for her once we were married.
- I walked downstairs into the living room, and my father was alone. He sat on the black couch, wearing a white garment as if he hadn't taken his bath yet.
- Dad was going through a file, and I walked downstairs to greet him.
- "Good morning, Father," I said, and my dad paused what he was reading, looked at me, and a warm smile crept on his face. He replied, "Good morning, Darlington. Happy New Year."
- "Happy New Year, Dad. Where is Mom?" I inquired, and my dad said, "She's upstairs and still in her room sleeping. You know we slept late last night?"
- "I know, Dad," I replied, sitting across from my father.
- "Yes, Darlington. That reminds me. I wanted to tell you about this yesterday, but I decided not to be in a hurry," my dad said.
- "What is it, Dad?" I inquired, looking at his face.
- Dad sighed and replied, "Your wife, Amara Nicholas, is coming to the city today. To start living with you."
- "What!" I exclaimed in disbelief.
