• Several hours later, Courtney sat in silence at one end of the back seat of a moving car, with Travis occupying the other end. They were en route to the Williams Mansion for Travis's formal introduction to Courtney's father. Although her father had approved of their sham marriage, they had yet to meet face-to-face.
• "You know, at some point you're still going to have to wear that ring," Travis remarked, turning to her.
• Courtney sighed, not bothering to respond. She had noticed he was already wearing his ring, but she was in no mood to talk to him—he was the last person she wanted to engage with at the moment. Despite Travis being right about the necessity of flaunting her ring eventually, it felt unimportant at the moment.
