Chapter 6 Getting Married

  • When Robert heard Katherine's words, his expression changed as he shouted, "David!"
  • David rushed over and said, "Is something the matter, Old Mr. Fowler?"
  • "Quick! Hurry up and send her to the hospital!"
  • "Yes!"
  • At that moment, the Fowler Residence was in chaos. Soon, Katherine was rushed to the hospital in haste. At the same time, Daniel stood by the door and squinted his eyes as he watched those cars drive away.
  • Then, he recalled the scene and wondered if he had imagined things. At that moment, he felt like Katherine had intentionally cut off Robert's words. However, as soon as he thought about it, he doubted it without hesitation. After all, he thought that Katherine was a woman who only cared about money, so there was no way she would give up on marrying him!
  • On the other hand, Katherine had her blood drawn and did an ultrasound when she arrived at the hospital. After checking her body thoroughly, the doctor confirmed that the babies were fine under the intimidating aura of Robert.
  • "She'll be fine in a few days. Before that, she should rest in bed and minimize her movements," the doctor said.
  • Hearing the doctor's words, Robert breathed a sigh of relief.
  • After Katherine returned to the Fowler Residence, she was restricted from getting out of bed. Moreover, David even instructed three servants to take care of her. When Katherine knew about it, she felt they were treating her as though she was made of glass.
  • While she leaned against the bedpost, she watched the shadows of the trees sway with the wind, sighing softly. When Daniel and Robert were talking earlier, she ran out and stopped their conversation on purpose. After all, she didn't want to marry Daniel. She had already lost her dignity in front of him and didn't want to be hated by him anymore. However, there were some things that she could stop once, but not twice.
  • While Katherine was resting, Daniel and Robert were in the study room.
  • Robert looked at Daniel and said persistently, "The Fowler Family cannot have any illegitimate children. You must marry Katherine!"
  • "Why don't you marry her instead? It's not the first time that you have done this. It would be great for you to have another May-December romance." Daniel sneered.
  • "Nonsense!" Robert slammed the table in furious and roared. "How can you say such things when she is bearing your children?"
  • However, Daniel ignored his words and was about to leave. "If you have nothing more to say, I'll be leaving."
  • "Wait," Robert called out to him. "Haven't you been looking for Lucas throughout the past few years?"
  • When Daniel heard his words, he turned around and had a grim expression on his face.
  • Looking at his reaction, there was a glint in Robert's eyes. "If you are willing to marry Katherine, I'll tell you everything I know."
  • The next day, after Katherine had her breakfast, she lay in bed while scrolling through her phone. She was restricted from getting down, after all.
  • Since rumors of her being kicked out of the Newman Family were spread, hundreds of messages flooded her Messenger. Both her acquaintances and strangers were texting her. Some were beating around the bushes, some were standing on the sidelines, and some were mocking her. Furthermore, Rose had even dared to post on Facebook, talking behind her back.
  • 'When I heard the ridiculous thing that had happened, I was baffled. Indeed, fakers will be fakers for life. They are embarrassing to watch,' Rose wrote.
  • Someone commented, 'Are you talking about the fake daughter who was kicked out of the family because she became pregnant before getting married?'
  • 'We all have the same tea to spill," another comment wrote.
  • 'I'm going to say that she did it to herself. Since the real daughter is back, she should've kept it on the down low. However, she even dared to fool around and got herself pregnant. Isn't she digging her own grave by doing this?'
  • 'I never thought that she would be such a wh*re! She looks so innocent.'
  • 'If I had known that she is a wh*re, I wouldn't have been so innocent to her and had my ways with her when I was courting her. Maybe then she would've accepted me!'
  • 'You might still have your chance! After all, she has nowhere to go and is now in her most vulnerable state!'
  • 'I'm a clean freak, okay? I don't accept women who've been used.'
  • Looking at the snarky comments, Katherine gripped her phone tightly and didn't say a word. When she saw it, she knew who had spread the gossip since only the Newmans knew that she was pregnant.
  • Miranda is being impatient and trying to cut ties with me as soon as possible! she thought. Then, she calmed herself down since she couldn't change others' perspectives at this point.
  • After Katherine blacklisted those who had mocked her, she threw her phone aside and hid under the sheets. Then, she covered herself with the blankets, seemingly as if she would not know what was happening in the outside world.
  • However, she wasn't able to shy away from reality.
  • When Robert entered the room with the help of David, he saw Katherine covering herself with the blankets. "Are you feeling unwell, Katherine?" he asked.
  • When Katherine heard his words, she pulled down the blankets frantically and tidied her hair. "It's nothing. I'm doing well," she said awkwardly.
  • "That's good." Robert looked at her flushed face from being suffocated in the blanket and said, "Still, please don't sleep with the covers over your head. It isn't good for your breathing, and it will also be bad for the babies."
  • "Alright." Katherine twitched her lips.
  • Then, Robert nodded and said, "Once you get better and are cleared to get out of bed, I want you to get married to Daniel."
  • Boom! At that moment, lightning struck across the already gloomy sky.
  • "I'm sorry, but I don't want to get married," Katherine said dumbfoundedly.
  • "Why not? Do you think that Daniel is not worthy?"
  • "No, he is an outstanding man—that's precisely why I can't marry him. I know my place, and I am aware that I won't be a good fit for him!"
  • "You don't need to say that to yourself. If I say that you are a match for him, then that's it."
  • "Old Mr. Fowler, marriage is supposed to be the consent of two people. I know Mr. Daniel will refuse to marry me, and the same goes for me!"
  • Hearing her words, Robert leaned back against the wheelchair and smiled, saying, "I'm here to inform you about it, Katherine; I'm not here to discuss it with you. The medical team that I've contacted is still on their way. You must know that they can return the moment I give them a call."
  • When Katherine heard his words, she felt that he was despicable for threatening her with the same method!
  • She gripped the sheets under her and said, "You only offered me to give birth to the babies, Old Mr. Fowler. That's our deal for treating Miss Anderson. You never told me to marry Daniel. It's not right to break a promise, right?"
  • However, Robert was calm and looked to be playing dumb. "I must have forgotten about it. I'm an old man, you know? If that's the case, let's add it to the deal now. At this moment, in order to treat Miss Anderson, you must marry Daniel."
  • Hearing his words, Katherine was speechless.
  • Seeing that she was upset, Robert advised her, "To be honest, it isn't that bad to marry my son. After all, you have agreed to give birth to his children. Both of you can get a divorce after you are done giving birth. All I want is for my grandchildren to be born legally. After they are born, it's no longer my duty whether you are still married to him. Moreover… it would be a terrible idea for the medical team to return when they are already halfway here, don't you think so?"
  • Hearing his words, Katherine smiled bitterly and said, "What else can I say when you have already thought of everything?" At this moment, she was only a tool to be used since Robert had a hold of her weakness. She didn't even have the right to say no. However, she wondered why Daniel didn't refuse the idea. After all, she couldn't because she didn't have the right to do so, but Daniel was the wealthiest man in Zlidon.
