Chapter 2 It's Your Child

• When Daniel heard Katherine's words, he squinted his eyes as a cold glint flashed across. "So?" He wondered if she would ask for compensation, implying that she had a miscarriage because of him.
• Then, he lowered his eyes and eyed her up and down. He noticed that although her face was pale, her eyes were bright as the stars, and she looked as beautiful as a goddess. She is a stunning woman. It's too bad that she is trying to blackmail me, he thought.
• Looking at the man's cold gaze, Katherine was startled and realized he had not remembered her. At that moment, her heart sank. However, she remembered her situation and took a deep breath, reminding him. "We met on the 11th of July at nighttime. You and I were at Room 1908 in Sunsettia Hotel."
• When Daniel heard her words, he went silent. The steamy hot night two months ago was so enticing that he had not forgotten about it.
• "It was you?" He stared at Katherine.
• Noticing the man's heated gaze, Katherine suppressed the embarrassment in her and nodded.
• "Are you pregnant?" he asked again.
• Katherine nodded and explained, "It's yours…" She was afraid that he would not take the hint.
• "How can you prove it?"
• When Katherine heard his words, she was startled momentarily. She raised her head and was met with his cold gaze. Then, she bit her lips and explained it to him, saying, "I have never slept with another man aside from you… It was my first time that night… You could probably tell as well…"
• Daniel's eyes darkened as he heard her words. To be honest, he hadn't noticed it since he was drugged and out of his head that night. However, he did see some blood on the bed sheets the following day. Still, he was doubtful of her words. After all, even if he had taken her virginity, that didn't mean she hadn't slept with other men afterward.
• For a woman who would simply enter another person’s room, he had his suspicions. Nevertheless, he didn't want to confront her about the child on the streets. Hence, he took out a check and wrote on it while saying coldly, "How much money do you want?"
• Hearing his words, Katherine clenched her fists by her side. At that moment, she was drowned in embarrassment. She wanted to tear the check into pieces and throw it at his face like how those female leads in the movies did. However, Elana was still waiting for her to pay the bills at the hospital. Thinking about it, Katherine croaked, "Fifty million dollars. I need fifty million dollars…"
• She remembered that the doctor had told her that Elana's medical fees were at least fifty million dollars.
• At that moment, Daniel had already written ten million on the check. When he heard her words, he huffed and added another zero. Then, he looked at her coldly as he handed her the check, saying, "Here is a hundred million for you to prepare for the abortion. I never want to see you appear in front of me again and talk about the baby. Do you understand?"
• Hearing his words, Katherine lowered her head and reached out her trembling hands. She thought she must have looked pathetic in this state since Daniel didn't even have the patience to wait for her and retrieved his hand, letting the check fall by her leg. Then, he turned around and drove away without hesitation.
• After standing there in a trance for a few minutes, Katherine bent down and took the check. When she straightened her back, a tear fell from her eyes and onto the concrete road.

• On the other hand, Kimberley was cleaning Katherine's room at the Newman Residence.
• Although she looked like she was tidying up the room, she was actually digging through Katherine's stuff. She wanted to see if she could take away anything valuable. After all, Katherine had a lower status than her, and no one would support Katherine. However, after searching for a long time, Kimberley couldn't find anything valuable at all.
• She knew that when Rose returned, she had destroyed all of Katherine's beautiful dresses and purses, even snatching away the woman's jewelry pieces. However, she didn't expect Rose to take it all without leaving anything behind.
• "What rotten luck!" Kimberley twitched her lips and hauled Katherine's blankets in frustration, throwing them on the floor.
• Thud! At that moment, something fell out of it.
• When Kimberley heard the sound, she thought it was something valuable that Katherine had hidden. With that thought, her eyes brightened, and she quickly picked it up. However, as soon as she saw what it was, she widened her eyes in shock and rushed out of the room. "Madam!" she shouted.

• When Katherine entered the house, she was slapped by Miranda.
• "Where did you run off to? Why didn't you get the marriage certificate with Wilson?" Miranda interrogated her with a furious look.
• Katherine endured the pain in her cheek and said, "I don't want to get married to him."
• "Why not? Are you going to say that he is a playboy again? You are nothing better than him, though!" As Miranda roared, she threw something toward Katherine. "You are pregnant! I didn't expect you to be so bold, Katherine. You are such a disgrace!" she screamed.
• When Katherine saw the pregnancy test on the floor, her mind went blank.
• "You will always be an abomination with that awful genetics of yours. Even when I've given you the best education you could ever have, you are still worthless! You have ruined the Newman Family's reputation!" Miranda scoffed and looked at her coldly. "Get out of here! This house can no longer keep you when you have done such a humiliating thing." Then, she looked at Kimberley.
• Immediately, Kimberley understood her meaning and went to another room. Then, she dragged a luggage out and threw it in front of Katherine, saying, "Miss New… Miss Katherine, here are all your belongings. Now, take it and leave!"
• Miranda crossed her arms, looked at Katherine like she was a nobody, then said, "After raising you for so many years, I never thought of kicking you out even when Rosie returned. However, you are incorrigible and have no desire of becoming a better person. Our family has done everything we can to help you, so you're on your own now!"
• Hearing her words, Katherine suddenly chuckled.
• "What are you laughing at?" asked Miranda as she frowned.
• Then, Katherine raised her head and looked at her with teary eyes. "Isn't it because you are afraid that the others will gossip and say that the Newmans abandoned their adopted daughter after finding their biological child? That was the only thing stopping you from kicking me out of the house, so don't talk so highly of yourself."
• To be honest, Katherine had tried to leave when she felt the difference in their attitudes after Rose returned. However, they had stopped her from leaving, but she knew that it was not out of love; it was because they didn't want to be seen as heartless monsters by others! Now that she had made a mistake, they would surely be thrilled to be finally able to kick her out of the house.
• When Miranda heard her words, she was furious that Katherine knew their plan. "Do you hate me now? If I hadn't adopted you back then, you would be rotting in the mud right now! You are such an ungrateful child. Rosie's right—you are an ungrateful person. No wonder your parents decided to abandon you!"
• Hearing her words, Katherine clenched her fists and choked on a sob. She was heartbroken since it was always a pain to hear about her parents. "No. I am grateful for these years you have raised me, even when you were just using me as a replacement for Rose to fill the void in your heart!"
• Then, she took out a card, which had been exchanged with Daniel's check, and handed it to her, saying, "There are fifty million dollars in this card. Take this as gratitude for raising me all these years. I know it's not much, but Rose has been torturing and humiliating me for the past six months, and I would also need compensation for it. Hence, I think fifty million dollars is enough to pay back for everything. From today onward, I will do as you wish and not bother the Newmans anymore!"
• Looking at the card, Miranda had a disgusted look and said, "Where did you get the money from? You didn't earn it by selling your body, did you?"
• Before Rose returned to the family, I never gave much money to Katherine, let alone during these six months. Technically speaking, all of her money would be spent on Miss Anderson's medical bills. Thus, where did she get the fifty million from? Miranda thought.
• Katherine didn't explain further since she didn't want to recall how shameless she was to get the money from Daniel. She put the card on the floor and kowtowed to Miranda three times as she spoke. "Farewell." Then, she got up, dragged her luggage, and left without hesitation.
• Just as she was by the door, she heard a shout from above her. "Hey!"
