Chapter 19 David's Hint

  • Soaked to the bone, Linda stomped back to her bedroom.
  • She happened to cross paths with David, who gawked at her messed up appearance with quizzical eyes. "Miss Linda! What happened to you?"
  • Linda's eyes had turned red from anger at this point. There was no way someone who was raised like a princess at home could put up with this kind of humiliation.
  • "It is that b*tch Katherine! How dare she do this to me?! I will pay her back someday!"
  • David was silent for a few seconds before he sighed and comforted her. "Mrs. Fowler did grow up without parents, after all. For someone who was raised in an orphanage, it is inevitable that she is ignorant about human relationships due to lack of education. Miss Linda, it would be better if you don't concern yourself with her that much."
  • "What did you say?" Linda was in the middle of squeezing out the water from her sleeves when she came to a pause, her eyes flickering. "That b*tch is just an orphan from an orphanage?"
  • David nodded at that. "Even though Mrs. Fowler was later adopted by the Newman Family and their background is somewhat decent, it is a fact that adoptive parents will never compare to biological ones. It is normal for them to be negligent to the child's life and education. We can tell how the Newman couple usually treats her from how they unhesitantly kicked Mrs. Fowler out of the house because she was pregnant out of wedlock. If you think about it, Mrs. Fowler is a pitiful person!"
  • "There must be something despicable about pitiful people. I would rather strangle my daughter to death if she ever turned out to be such an embarrassment!" Linda snorted upon hearing his words.
  • "You can't say that, Miss Linda. After all, the children in Mrs. Fowler's womb is Mr. Daniel's as well. No matter how angry you are, you have to think of the child," David seemed to intentionally remind her.
  • "Mm, I got it."
  • Despite her nonchalant reply, she had an excited glint in her eyes.
  • Linda had thought that Katherine must have come from an impressive background, as Robert allowed Katherine into their family just because she was with child.
  • Never in a million years did Linda expect Katherine to be a cheap nobody.
  • Ha! An orphan that got kicked out by her adoptive parents, and is nothing more than a man's plaything dares to act all arrogant in front of me?!
  • She's overestimated herself!
  • Linda's heavy steps quickly turned into light and brisk ones as she hopped back to her room.
  • As David turned to look at her back, he had a glint in his eyes.
  • After leaving the company, Daniel went home to the Fowler Residence in the middle of the night.
  • As soon as his right foot went on the stairs, he saw Katherine walking down from upstairs.
  • She only had a loose white dress on, and her thick, messy hair almost covered her face as she shuffled down the stairs with her head lowered.
  • The dim lighting only added to the eerie atmosphere.
  • Daniel quietly watched her as she took staggering steps and came in front of him. However, it was as if she didn't see him when she floated past him toward the dining hall, much like a ghost.
  • She must be going there to fetch herself some water, judging by how she has a glass in her hand, Daniel thought to himself.
  • He couldn't understand why she would always go downstairs herself in the middle of the night for water every time despite having an exclusive servant.
  • Even though he was slightly puzzled by her behavior, he didn't care enough to stay, and turned around to go upstairs.
  • Clang!
  • The sound of glass breaking came from the dining hall all of a sudden.
  • He immediately turned in the direction of the sound, only to see Katherine on the floor by the dining hall's door, seemingly unconscious.
  • The shards of the broken glass were everywhere on the floor.
  • He hesitated for a second, but finally decided to go to her.
  • After he flipped her body over, he brushed off the messy hair on her face, revealing her petite face.
  • He then noticed how she had an unusual flush on her exquisite face, and her lips were pale.
  • Seeing this, he placed his palm on her clear forehead.
  • It was hot to the touch.
  • She has a high fever.
  • After Daniel stayed there deciding what to do for a minute, he placed one hand on the back of her torso and the other at the back of her knees, and carried her like a groom would a bride.
  • He didn't hesitate to kick the bedroom door open when he brought her upstairs.
  • The servant, who was sound asleep in her bed, was instantly woken up by the commotion. She was even more shocked that she jumped out of her bed when she saw the dark look on Daniel's handsome face.
  • "M-Mr. Daniel?"
  • This is the first time he has come to Mrs. Fowler's room!
  • However, she soon recovered from her shock when she saw the woman lying in his arms. "Did something happen to Mrs. Fowler?" she asked after hurrying to him.
  • His eyes coldly swept across her. "Is this how you take care of people?"
  • She sleeps like she is dead even though it is her responsibility to care for a pregnant woman.
  • No wonder Katherine has to go downstairs to fetch herself water in the middle of the night every time.
  • The servant paled and mumbled, "I-I am sorry. I didn't know…"
  • Fortunately for her, Daniel didn't say much as he went around the servant and placed Katherine on the bed. "Go get me some antipyretics," he instructed, to which the servant replied, "Yes, sir!"
  • She was about to head out when she turned to Daniel again as something came to mind. "But Mr. Daniel, Mrs. Fowler is with child. She can't take antipyretics…"
  • His face went cold again, and he barked another command, "Get some cooling patches, then. And also a towel and a basin of water."
  • "Yes, Mr. Daniel!" The servant swiftly ran out of the room.
