Any man would take responsibility.” His gaze flicked to the infant cradled in the corner, dread and duty warring behind his eyes. “They are a burden, nothing else. I have never felt the slightest affection for either of them. I love only you!”
Vanessa's eyebrow arched toward the ceiling fan. “No affection, hmm?” Her focus dropped to the baby bottle shaking in his hand. “Then drop the prop before you keep talking.”
Julian's fingers spasmed. The bottle almost shattered on the marble tiles. “I—I was only helping for a second,” he stammered softly.”
