- Caxton weighed Champ in his arms, chuckling at the toddler's serious expression. “Adorable and clever,” he announced. “Balancing the battlefield at such a young age—brilliant strategy.” He pressed a gentle kiss to Champ's plump cheek. “With you here, Champ, I'll stop wrestling Danie away from Martin. Fair trade, right?”
- Champ wriggled, little brows knitting in protest. “Uncle Caxton, I don't like being carried. I prefer to walk on my own.” Caxton released a helpless sigh. “Champ, why can't you be as cuddly as Danie? Look at him—anyone can scoop him up and he just beams. Try learning a thing or two from him, will you?”
