- “No—absolutely not!” Colin's patience frayed, his words exploding before he could temper them. “How many times must I repeat myself before you understand? The woman I love now is Rowena. There is nothing—past, present, or future—between me and Sophia. My heart belongs to Rowena, and that is never going to change.”
- A door slammed. Sophia burst inside, her face the color of ash, eyes blazing with anguish. “Then why did it change before?” she cried, voice pitched with betrayal. “You loved me once—everyone knows it. If you had a change of heart back then, why can't that happen again? Doesn't the fact you changed before mean you can change later?”
- Colin's gaze hardened. “Because the version of you I loved was never real,” he answered, blunt as a hammer. “I thought you were innocent, lively, and confident. Look at yourself now—screaming, clinging like the sky has collapsed just because we broke up. Real love requires self-respect. If one heart turns cold, the other should let go. This hysterical siege you've mounted only proves I misjudged you, and it changes nothing.”
