Chapter 6 -The Bad Fall
- She left with him and sat in his car, which sped away as if someone was chasing them.
- The car ride was all about Carlos being on the phone with his men, giving them instructions on how to escape.
- Soon, Malta was filled with the sound of gunfire, and Veronica realized how dangerous it was for her to be in Fernando's territory.
- "I'll be losing my men today because of you," Carlos hissed at Veronica as they boarded the private jet.
- While getting on the jet, she got so scared by the nearby gunshots that she almost fell, but Carlos quickly caught her. His body pressed tightly against her back, and his hands held onto her arms from behind to keep her steady.
- She quickly pulled herself out of his grasp and walked up the stairs. Once the two sat down and the jet took off, Veronica closed her eyes to rest a little.
- She eventually fell asleep, and while she did, Carlos’ eyes landed on her. He held a glass of wine in his hand, his eyes fixed on her beautiful face. He could see her flinch a little in her sleep, as if she was having a nightmare, and it concerned him slightly.
- A few strands of hair danced on her face, and even though he wanted to brush them away, he stopped himself and looked away.
- It was around 4 p.m. when they finally landed, and Veronica woke up. The way her lips pouted as she yawned and stretched mesmerized Carlos. He couldn't believe he was staring at her face again. Even though he refused to admit it, the truth was that he had been wanting to see her face again.
- But his past would always overshadow his feelings. He remembered his mother’s face when she found out that her husband had died in a car accident—with a naked woman beside him. That woman was Veronica’s mother.
- Disgust filled his veins again, and he decided to avoid Veronica for the next few hours. As they took a car to the manor, Veronica adjusted in her seat to talk to him.
- “What about my baby? I don’t want you to hurt my child,” she uttered, anxiously playing with her fingers.
- “Veronica, shut up! I don’t want to hear your voice,” the man who had gone above and beyond to find his wife suddenly didn’t even want to hear her speak.
- He was reminded of his mother’s pain, and it stopped him from thinking about anything else. He dropped Veronica off at the manor and left to be alone for a while.
- As he drove away, he kept watching Veronica in the mirror. Once she was out of his sight, he leaned back in his seat, rested his head, and sighed repeatedly before telling the driver to take him to the rich men’s club.
- It was a club for gang members who disguised themselves as wealthy businessmen, hiding their true identities just to have one night of drinking and fun.
- He was escorted inside, where he reached the bar and sat down to grab a drink. He was deeply lost in thoughts of Veronica.
- Maybe if he had worn a condom or made sure she was on birth control, this wouldn’t have happened. The baby was already eight months old, so there was nothing that could be done. There was nothing he could do once she had conceived. It should have all been prevented long before she got pregnant.
- He kept drinking without realizing that someone had her eyes on him. A woman sitting far away had noticed him the moment he entered the bar. She smirked at the sight of the handsome man and quickly slid closer to him.
- “Aren’t you going to buy me a drink?” she asked. She was the typical sexy-looking woman seen in movies or on runways. She was sure her flirting would work since she was so attractive.
- Carlos gulped down his drink and ordered another, but the moment the woman reached out to take the glass, he snatched it out of her hands.
- She thought it was for her.
- “Leave!” he ordered, not wanting any attention at the moment.
- “Huh? Come on, don’t be so cold-hearted,” she said, running a finger over his muscular arm. She reached for his coat, trying to take it off, but he quickly grabbed her wrist and turned to glare at her.
- “I said, fucking leave me alone. I’m married.”
- He pushed her back, and she landed in her chair, the shock of rejection clear in her eyes.
- She had never been turned down by a man before.
- Carlos finished his drink and decided to leave, as she had completely ruined his mood. He grabbed a whole bottle as he walked out.
- Meanwhile, Veronica didn’t feel at home, even though she was returning to a place she had once known as home.
- “Can I get something to eat? I need to take my meds,” Veronica asked the maid walking behind her.
- “Sure, I’ll get you some food,” the maid said with a smile before walking away, while another maid led Veronica back to her old bedroom.
- She sighed as she looked around, remembering the painful nights when she had craved his love and gentle touch, but he had never even looked at her lovingly. It broke her heart, but nothing could make her give in to his desires again.
- She freshened up, took a shower, and changed into a white satin dress that made her look like a goddess.
- Her heart was heavy with worries, but seeing food placed on the corner table of her bedroom filled her with joy. She had been starving since morning. She sat down, quickly drank the glass of juice, and moved on to her meal.
- After she finished eating and had taken her medicine, she left the room to find a maid to take the dishes away. On her way back to her room, she came across a disturbing sight.
- It was Mathew, the man who had once been assigned to spy on her. He was leaving the room with her used panties tucked under his arm.
- “Hey! What the fuck are you doing?” she screamed, grabbing her panties from him and gasping in shock and disgust.
- Mathew froze, caught off guard. He hadn’t expected her to arrive so soon.
- After watching her 24/7 for a week, he had pleasured himself to her sight countless times. She was so gorgeous that he couldn’t help but fall for his boss’s wife.
- He couldn’t understand why Carlos was so harsh on her.
- “I can explain,” he muttered, taking slow, threatening steps toward her.
- “Explain what? What possible excuse can you give for such disgusting behavior?” she yelled, raising her hand to slap him across the face. But before she could, he grabbed her wrist and yanked her against his chest.
- A rush of fear and anger surged through her veins.
- “Give me a chance. I can love you like my boss never could. He’s not the one for you. I’ll love you, take care of you, and he’ll never find out,” Mathew murmured, pressing his face into her neck as he whispered against her skin and licked it.
- “Fuck off!” she screamed, kicking his knee to shove him away.
- “Even if he never loves or respects me, I will never cheat on him. You’re disgusting for even having thoughts about your boss’s wife,” she shouted, tears streaming down her face as she stepped back, trying to get away from him.
- “Huh! But he’s been cheating on you all this time. He brought you here just to kill the baby with his own hands,” Mathew lied.
- Carlos had never cheated on Veronica, and he certainly hadn’t brought her here to hurt her.
- “Stay away from me,” she warned, but he shook his head.
- “You know what? Carlos sent me here to take care of the baby, but I was kind enough—and in love with you—to give you a chance,” he sneered, stepping closer.
- He knew he had to get rid of her now, or else she would tell Carlos, and Carlos would kill him.
- Overcome with panic, he saw her standing near the staircase—and shoved her.
- Her body tumbled down like a lifeless doll.
