- The meeting room was silent now, the tension from Jerry’s awkward revelation lingering in the air. Damian had moved on, or at least pretended to, diving back into patrol reports with a nonchalant air. But my thoughts were far from the task at hand. They were locked on Anita.
- I stared at the reports in front of me, the words blurring together into meaningless shapes. Anita’s face, her voice, her laugh—those memories crept into my mind no matter how much I tried to suppress them. And now, the image of her with another man, smiling over coffee, was etched into my thoughts.
