- I tossed my phone onto the car seat beside me, a sharp exhale escaping my lips as I leaned back against the leather. The confirmation from the office came through quicker than I had expected, but it didn’t bring the satisfaction I thought it would. Pushing Anita to sign the divorce papers tonight felt necessary, like a step toward resolving this tangled mess between us, but there was an unsettling tightness in my chest. A feeling of finality that didn’t sit well with me.
