• I felt the housekeeper’s question still lingering in the air, her curious gaze expectant and warm. I hadn’t been prepared for this line of questioning, nor for the intensity with which it seemed to impact Alpha Hades. He kept his expression guarded, but I noticed the slight tension in his jaw as he waited for me to answer.
• Summoning my composure, I offered her a smile. “Actually, I already have a mate,” I said quietly, hoping my voice didn’t betray the heaviness that came with that admission.
