Chapter 79
- Evelyn’s POV
- The dim glow of the streetlights illuminated the car’s interior just enough for me to make out Beta Damian’s silhouette as he strode confidently into the building, his shoulders squared, every inch of him projecting strength. My eyes narrowed, watching intently as his gaze scanned the hallway ahead, alert and cautious. Echoes of his footsteps sounds as he walked through the place. A second figure trailed close behind him—a man in a white coat, his demeanor giving him away as a doctor. It was obvious now: they’d called for help. Damian was leading this doctor to Anita, no doubt to patch up whatever small vulnerability we’d managed to exploit.
- I leaned back against the leather seat, my fingers curling into fists. A bitter smile twisted my lips, but it was tainted by the sinking realization that this plan, meticulously crafted and flawlessly executed—or so I thought—had failed. I could feel my frustration simmering just beneath the surface, cold yet fierce, like ice ready to crack. The satisfaction of knowing Anita was supposed to suffer slowly drained away, leaving behind a bitterness that settled like a stone in my chest. How was it that Hades always managed to be one step ahead of me? Every carefully laid trap, every scheme meant to weaken her hold on him, seemed to crumble in his wake. It was maddening, infuriating.
