Lily, however, did not pay attention to Ethan's entrance or the team's reaction. She was still lost in her thoughts. Mia, noticing Lily's continued distraction, discreetly jerked her hand under the table to get Lily's attention, trying to bring her back to the reality of the meeting. Lily gestured slightly with her eyes toward Mia, then turned and saw Ethan sitting next to her.
Ethan's presence was suffocating for her. The proximity to him and the memories of their past interactions made her uncomfortable. She felt a sudden urge to get away from him, to get out of the meeting room. Lily stood up abruptly. "I...I need to step out for a moment," she said, pushing her chair back. "Excuse me."
Mia got up and followed Lily out of the meeting room, concern for Lily evident in her movements.
