- "Dahlia," Xavier's stern tone abruptly halted her rambling. She quickly closed her mouth and took a deep breath. It was only then that she became aware of a twinge of pain in her chest, and tears filled her eyes at the thought of Brandon.
- Xavier wrapped his arm around her, and she cried out, "It's really okay, isn't it?" She wished to suppress any feelings of pain or sorrow from the years of abuse she had endured. It was all over now, and she desperately wanted to forget it, as if it had all been a terrible dream.
- "You don't have to be okay, Dahlia," he whispered, gently patting her back.
