Chapter 5

  • Chapter 5
  • I get out of the shower and look at the time on my phone. I put on a simple dress and put on some makeup before going downstairs to the kitchen where my grandmother was dressed in a red dress that looked great on her!
  • "Wow grandma! You look amazing!" I exclaimed.
  • She smiled at me and walked over to me before stroking my cheek.
  • "You do too, Emily. You look beautiful in that dress.
  • -Thank you, Grandma.
  • -You're welcome, honey. -Can you help me set the table?
  • -Of course I can!
  • I help her set the table, and when everything is ready, we head to the living room to wait for those two idiots who are my parents to arrive.
  • I wonder how they'll react when they see me - will they be shocked? angry? upset? or happy? Pff, I'm sure they'll pout.
  • When I saw my grandmother wiggle her fingers, I knew something was wrong. She seemed extremely nervous, which is quite rare for her. But why is she so stressed out?
  • "Are you okay, grandma? I see something is bothering you.... What's wrong!"
  • She gives me a forced smile before answering.
  • "It's just that I'm very nervous. I wonder what they have to tell me and it must be very important, since they come here. They only come to my house when it's urgent. I have a bad feeling."
  • I have a bad feeling too.
  • "Don't worry, Grandma. Everything is going to be all right. I'm here." I tell her, trying to calm her down.
  • But it's my turn to stress when I hear the doorbell ring.
  • My grandmother gets up to open the door and I can already feel my legs shaking when I hear that voice I haven't heard in five long years.
  • "Will you let us in?" says a female voice I recognize instantly.
  • My "mother."
  • "Will you let us in?"
  • My grandmother pushes slightly to let my "parents" through.
  • I freeze when I see them. five years without seeing their faces! five years waiting for them to come visit me in prison! five years suffering their absence!
  • When my mother finally notices me, her eyes immediately fill with anger and contempt. I smile at her to annoy her, and I think it works because she clenches her fists.
  • I'm glad you're here, too.
  • I think
  • "Maria! What is that idiot doing here?
  • he yelled at my grandmother.
  • Grandma throws lightning bolts at my mother and opens her mouth to yell at her, but I cut her off immediately.
  • "Good evening. It's so good to see you again after five long years. You haven't changed a bit. You're still stupid, arrogant, immature and money-hungry. Would you like a coffee? Tea? With or without sugar? Or with milk? Or chocolate?" I said ironically, giving her a triumphant smile.
  • She turns red with anger and glares at me, clenching her fists. If she had horns on her head and smoke coming out of her nose, she would be a perfect copy of the devil!
  • "That's enough!" my grandmother shouted.
  • "Maria, what is that whore doing here!" my "mother" asked again.
  • "She lives here and if you're not happy and object, just get out of my house, my door is wide open! I can even hold your wrist!" shouted my grandmother.
  • My "parents" threw lightning bolts at me that I didn't know were there. I wanted to insult them and hit them, but when I saw the grim look on Grandma's face, I immediately changed my mind.
  • However, an idea comes to my mind and I think tonight will turn out great after all.
  • My grandmother asks my parents to come into the kitchen and looks at me strangely while I smile stupidly at my genius plan.
  • "Why are you smiling stupidly? I thought you weren't happy to see your parents, what's that for? Are you sure you're okay?" she asks me.
  • "Nothing at all granny and I'm fine, don't worry."
  • She squints her eyes, trying to figure out what I'm doing, and then goes to the kitchen. I follow her and see my "parents" sitting at the table whispering to each other. I can't believe it. I'm sure those idiots are plotting something against me. Besides, I think Grandma is thinking the same thing I'm thinking by the look on her face.
  • "They look like children, those two.
  • she sighed, shaking her head
  • I chuckle softly at the look on her face. She looks exasperated by their immature behavior.
  • "What are you talking about?" I ask loud enough to be heard.
  • They startle before turning around and glaring at me. Apparently, that's all they know how to do.
  • "Why are you looking at me like that, come on! Tell me what you're doing with your daughter. It must be a lot of fun with that face."
  • My mother breathes heavily as she clenches her jaw while my father smiles hypocritically at me before speaking.
  • "Well, we were just talking about Leo. We're so glad he found a woman prettier and smarter than you, and at least he didn't kill anyone on his wedding day.
  • -RICHARD!" my grandmother shouted.
