Chapter 4

  • Chapter 04
  • I think I'm going to faint.
  • First I find out that my ex-fiancé has been cheating on me with his "childhood friend" for I don't know how long, and now my grandmother tells me that my parents are coming over for dinner tonight even though she told me she had cut off all contact with them. I wonder what the next piece of news will be that will break me.
  • "EMY? EMY? EMY!" my grandmother repeats before shouting my name.
  • I flinch and stare at her, putting a hand to my chest.
  • "No but keep screaming louder!" I say wryly, staring at her.
  • "I'm sorry, but it's just that you weren't listening to me and....
  • -Yes, I wasn't listening to you and I don't want to. Do you realize what you just said to me? Have you completely lost your mind!
  • -Amy...
  • -NO!" I cut her off, screaming. "I thought you had cut off all contact with them, so why are they coming here tonight?! Huh?! Why?!
  • She ducks her head without answering me, which makes me even angrier.
  • I really didn't want to see them after what they did to me. I don't even know what I'm going to do when they're in front of me.
  • Ignore them? Beat them? Kill them? Or just ask them why they didn't believe me and why they were happy about Eric and Melina's wedding when I was rotting like shit in jail?
  • Yeah, that's what I can't figure out. Not only did they accuse me of being a "murderer" without any proof and without even giving me a chance to prove I was innocent, but they also attended my ex-fiancé's wedding party.
  • Really?! What kind of parents are they? How could they do that to their own daughter? Her flesh? Her blood? How could they?!
  • I was so engrossed in my thoughts that I don't hear my grandmother, who has been talking to me for a while now, waving her arms.
  • "Emily! I've been talking to myself for ten minutes and you know I hate it. Get a hold of yourself, child!
  • -You're the one who should control yourself, Grandma.
  • -I know you don't like it when your parents come over, but.... She said without continuing the sentence
  • She really annoys me, leaving her sentences hanging. But it's not hard to finish a sentence!
  • "But?" I repeated, annoyed.
  • "But they told me they have something very important to tell me and that's why I agreed to let them come tonight."
  • Something important? Interesting!
  • "Do you know what it's about?
  • -No, your mother didn't want to tell me over the phone, she wanted to tell me to my face.
  • -Did she call you?" I asked.
  • "Yes," she answered
  • "When?
  • -An hour ago. Please, Emily, don't be angry with me, I just wanted to know what important things she had to tell me, that's why I agreed to let her and your father come here. If it were for anything else, I would have refused. I beg your pardon."
  • My heart sinks as I see her lower her head as if she had just done something stupid. I should be the one apologizing, not her. I am the one who has done wrong.
  • "No, don't worry, Grandma. I'm the one who should apologize for getting carried away," I said, taking her in my arms.
  • "You're not angry?
  • -Not anymore. I'm sorry I got carried away, Grandma. But I have a question.
  • -Do you? Tell me.
  • -Do you think it's a good idea for them to see me here? -They won't try to convince you to throw me out?!
  • -Don't worry, honey, I'll never throw you out, you have my word."
  • She grabs my face with both hands before giving me a kiss on my forehead. I feel so good with her, the only one who has been by my side.
  • "What time are you coming?
  • -At eight o'clock. You have plenty of time to get ready."
  • I nod and head to my room. Then I head to the bathroom to take a cold shower because I really needed it after this long, hard day. If my parents are coming, it's very important.
