Chapter 2 Natalie, Let's Work Together!

  • It's no wonder Casper's childhood sweetheart broke the marriage off and left to go abroad. Who in their right mind would be willing to marry a person in a coma? Natalie thought to herself with an inexplicable sourness in her heart. "Casper Langston, do you feel wronged here?" she asked, thinking how the pride of the Langston Family was now just a cripple who could not even care for himself.
  • Unconsciously, she softened her tone as she continued, "Don't worry. Since I've already taken on your family name, I will take good care of you from now on." Then, she boldly took Casper's pulse.
  • Natalie was a woman with a medical background. After her mother had passed, she inherited most of her mother's medical knowledge and other books her mother had collected over the years. However, her background was in traditional medicine rather than modern medicine. Her medical skills were already outstanding as she had tens of years of practice. Hence, she saw what happened with her brother as ironic, as she could not save her brother even though she was well-versed in the practice.
  • After checking the man's pulse, Natalie realized that Casper could still be treated. Now, she was conflicted about whether to give treatment to the man. Just then, her phone rang with the name 'Justin' appearing as the caller ID.
  • "… Natalie, you finally answered my call. Come out and open the door. I'm right outside the Langston Residence. Natalie, I miss you so much. You know that I love you, right? Since Casper is just a vegetable, he won't be able to satisfy you at all. Natalie, open the door and let me in. I'll make absolutely sure to help you become a grown woman tonight!"
  • At the wedding, Natalie's beautiful appearance captivated Justin. Even though Britney had come at him on her own accord, he still could not forget how she looked and immediately came to her.
  • Natalie had never thought that man would be so shameless to this extent. Repulsed by Justin, she sneered, "Justin Lewis, I'm already a married woman. For you to harass someone else's wife in the middle of the night, is this how the Lewis Family teaches their children?"
  • "Natalie, please calm down and listen to me. I've heard that Old Mrs. Langston had always wanted Casper to have an heir to inherit the family business for when he dies. Natalie, I can help you with this!" Justin had thought that if Natalie were to be pregnant with his own child, then it would mean that the Langston Family would be his for the taking in the future.
  • On the other hand, Natalie realized for the first time in her life just how foolish Justin was. Indifferently, she replied, "Are you still living in a primitive society? Do you think the Langstons wouldn't do a paternity test? You should know that there are countless companies that have such service under the Langston Family."
  • Unable to retort, Justin only thought, True, the first course of action the Langston Family would take is to conduct a paternity test. How am I supposed to interfere with the result?
  • "Furthermore," Natalie lowered her tone and sneered, "who told you that Casper can't satisfy me? He's much better than you in that regard!"
  • Terrified, Justin replied, "No! That's impossible! He can't possibly…"
  • At this point, Natalie did not want to continue listening to Justin's nonsense, so she ended the call and immediately contacted the security team under the Langston Family. Soon after, Justin's miserable screams were heard outside.
  • After that, Natalie's eyes were on Casper again. Since everyone was just biding their time on the day Casper drew his last breath, she did not want the situation to go as they hoped, especially Justin. In the end, regardless of whether it was an act of revenge, or that it was repaying the Langston Family, she made a decision.
  • One hour later, Natalie took the silver needles off Casper. As she was exhausted from the treatment, she immediately went to bed after she took a shower.
  • Initially, she had thought that she would be unaccustomed to sleeping beside someone else. However, not only did she have a pleasant sleep all the way until the dawn of day, but she even hugged Casper in the middle of her sleep. Upon realizing she was hugging Casper, she immediately got out of bed before anyone came in. Then, looking at the motionless Casper in bed, she said, "Good morning, Casper. I'll have to go greet the family today. I'll try to come back early."
  • It was a custom of the Langston Family for the bride to greet the family after their marriage. As Casper was still comatose, Natalie had no other choice but to do so alone.
  • At night, in the Langston Residence.
  • The Langston Residence was built in the olden days and had cost much. The vintage building stood magnificent with various fancy lightings as decoration.
  • Currently, the quaint hall was filled to the brim with people. The moment Natalie entered the hall, everyone turned their eyes to her.
  • "That's Casper's wife? She looks so unfamiliar. I don't think we've seen her before…"
  • "Keep your voice down! Don't you know that she's the wife Old Mrs. Langston arranged hastily for Casper? The other one already ran off a long time ago. With Casper's current condition, it's good enough that someone is willing to marry him…"
  • "She looks prim and proper. Unfortunately, she would be spending her life as a widow…"
  • Ethel cleared her throat, and everyone immediately stopped their chatter. Then, she said, "Natalie, come here. Sit beside me."
