Chapter 9 Hang In There, Casper

  • At Hillside Villa.
  • With the roaring sound of the helicopter, dozens of experts were brought to the villa, one after another. Tyler then led them into a small meeting room to discuss Casper's treatment. Since Professor Wright had completely collapsed mentally, as he was unable to form any coherent sentences, Tyler was the one who explained Casper's condition to the experts. However, after a round of discussion, everyone was at their wits' end.
  • "Could it be a case of terminal lucidity for Mr. Langston's waking up previously?"
  • "Acupuncture, he says? That's absurd. I think that is just an attempt by Professor Wright to pass the blame…"
  • "Traditional medicine is ultimately inferior to modern medicine. However, even us practicing modern medicine have our hands tied if you come to us at such a late stage…"
  • Since the door to the meeting room wasn't closed, Natalie could clearly hear the discussion in the room just outside the door. As she was the one who had performed the acupuncture on Casper, she had originally wanted to discuss the treatment with Casper after the latter had woken up. But because she was frightened by his attitude the moment he woke up, plus she left for the hospital immediately after that, she couldn't find the time to do so. She then cast a glance at the door of the master bedroom. He had already been brought back into the room and was now hanging by a thread inside.
  • To save, or not to save?
  • Should Natalie decide to take action now, it was likely that someone here would see through her actions. Although she had been studying medicine ever since she was a child, her mother's last words to her were to never reveal her medical skills until she had the ability to protect herself. Otherwise, she would be inviting her own death. She never understood the reason for her mother's words, but had nevertheless abided by it.
  • However, if she chose to let things run their course, Casper would definitely not make it through the night. As though sensing her thoughts, a shallow pain suddenly came from her abdomen. Does this child want me to save their father? As soon as she thought of the child, she started to become softhearted. Although this child was not someone she wanted, now that she had conceived this child, she did not wish for the child to be born without a father. Then, she gently stroked her stomach. As though the child had understood her feelings, the pain in her abdomen gradually vanished. She sighed before she entered the master bedroom during the brief moment nobody was paying attention to the room.
  • After Natalie entered the bedroom, she locked the bedroom door so that no one would come in and interrupt the treatment, as doing so would cause Casper to suffer some grave backlash. Although this was not the first time she performed treatment on Casper, this was the first time she did so after the latter had regained consciousness.
  • Unconscious on the huge bed, the man looked as though he was in pain, as he had a frown on his face with beads of sweat rolling from his forehead. As though guided by the hands of fate, Natalie said softly, "You'll be okay soon, so just hang in there, Casper." Then, she took out her acupuncture needles and started the treatment.
  • Meanwhile, with the discussion getting heated in the meeting room, several experts took their things and left, as they had concluded themselves that there was no saving Casper's condition. Although everyone present had fame to their names in Kaiton, they would usually have to curry favor with Casper. With Casper on his deathbed now, they no longer needed to keep up their appearances. Should they continue to stay, their reputation would no doubt suffer as a result. Hence, they decided that it was best for them to make some excuse to make their exit. In no time at all, there was only one young man left in the meeting room besides Tyler.
  • "Why aren't you leaving?" Tyler sounded sarcastic. Although he had followed Casper for many years, he was a man with a good head on his shoulder. He knew the reason why those experts had chosen to leave. As for the ones who chose to stay, he knew them to be even more shameless, as the reason for them doing so was for fame.
  • "My apologies. I'm actually here in Professor Franklin's stead, as the professor is currently out of town and is hard-pressed right now. But, I have passed all the information about Mr. Langston to the professor. Should the professor give a reply, I will pass the message to you immediately."
  • At this point, Tyler couldn't care less about Professor Franklin. Although he realized he had misjudged the young man in the room, he didn't have the energy to explain himself to him.
  • Just then, sounds of car engines could be heard from outside the villa. Tyler looked outside to see several black SUVs had entered the estate and that some men who had come down from the SUVs were trying to force their way into the villa. He immediately recognized them to be Henry's men. Looks like the things that are bound to happen will happen regardless, he thought. "If you want to leave, you better do it now. Otherwise, don't blame me if you can't leave later." With that, he left the room and went downstairs.
  • Downstairs.
  • Looking furious, Mrs. Jenkins was blocking the men's entry into the villa. "What are you all doing here? If you anger Mr. Langston by disturbing him with your presence, he will not let any of you go!"
  • Few of the black-suited bodyguards stood indifferently by the entrance. "Hmph! Don't think we don't know that Casper Langston is at death's door. We are under Henry's orders to capture Natalie Hartwell. Where is she?"
  • Immediately, a cold piercing voice came from upstairs. "Who told you that Mr. Langston is at death's door? Leave immediately if you know what's good for you. Otherwise, I'll make sure that none of you will be taking a step out of here today!"
  • It seems that Henry had gotten word about Casper's condition. I guess it is inevitable that their relationship would be completely torn apart after tonight.
